I would prefer to talk down and get the steelies anyway.. I'm planning on changing the wheels asap lol If base starts at 32k il be talking it down to 25k
As for the mx5 comment, go for a track day in a turbo one (hell even NA non stroked) and then talk.. I'm not tryin to be a smartass but I have a friend with a 13bmsp supercharged mx5.. Beat any aristo I have seen or heard of
That aside they do look very gay haha
But I like your thinking overall

Hah, I was kidding about the MX5. With the right mods they're not bad. But yeah, they're not the most masculine looking car out of the box, and pretty pricey for what they are.

I don't have my Aristo either too. Taxi driver ran up my ass and wrote it off.

I just started following the Toyota FT 86 and to be honest I can't wait for the release. As for pricing they mention that they would like it to be in the low 30k bracket and considering the aus market for cars this probably would happen. Their main competition is the Lancer vrx seeing as that is also n/a and available at around 30k theyre trying to price match it. If you look at the ralliart its just around 40k equipped with a turbo and twin clutch. There should be no reason that the ft 86 is priced at 45+ seeing as they won't sell.

Personally I can't wait, I'm already saving up and planning to sell my Lancer for the ft 86.! Anyone know if the engine meets the requirements for p platers in nsw ?

I think it'll be more expensive than you guys are thinking, we always get ripped in Aus.

I don't think it'll be cheaper than the Celica was 10 Years ago! Inflation etc should mean it will be more expensive, and FWDs are supposed to be cheaper to build.

2000 Celica SX 6spd - $38,465
2005 Celica SX 6spd - $39,300

My guestimation...
2012 Celica 86R 6spd - $42,990 ??? (December 2012 Aus release)
2013 Celica 86ZR 6spd Turbo - $52,990 ???? (December 2013 Aus release)

More examples
2005 MR2 (ZZSW30R) - $47,710 (and that was with a Corolla 1ZZ engine).
1999 MR2 (SW20R) NA 2.0lt - $47,896
1998 Corolla CSi Hatch - $19,990
2011 Corolla Ascent Hatch - $20,990
1998 Celica SX (ST204) NA 2.2lt - $34,980

13yrs ago the base model Celica was $35K and it had a Camry engine...

In the US thread they are thinking the FT-86 will be $22K-$26K (USD) and there the MX5(Miata) is $23.5K USD.
Here the base model MX5 is $42,460 so I guess that gives the FT-86 a price range of $40k-$48k.

Haha, ok how about this...

say we take the lower end of what they think it might cost.

$23,000 USD
Then we do the exchange rate conversion, but they'll add in a buffer for fluctuations in the dollar. So say 0.80 USD.
$23,000 / 0.80 = $28,750
Then add import tariff 5%
$28,750 x 1.05 = $30,187
Then add import duty 10%
$30,187 x 1.10 = $33,206
Then add GST 10%
$33,206 x 1.10 = $36,526

So $36,526 plus onroads

The aussie dollar will not drop that much it'll stick around parity or actually start to do alil better than the US$ so im going to do what you did but with the dollar as is now

ok so $1AUD is buying $1.06US
thats 21,572.72 US lets call it an even 22,000 just for arguments sake
import tariff 5%
$22,000 x 1.05 = $23,100
then import duty 10%
$23,100 x 1.10 = $25,410
then the GST
$25,410 X 1.10 = $27,951

So $27,951 onraods see now everyone is much happier:happy0180:

I was thinking the shipping and profit was already included in the US price.
They are building them in Japan aren't they? Gunma plant I think I read?

Yeah but we get stung here.. It sucks. If this car is in the high 20s/low 30s then they have a customer, cus that's how much it's worth. If Toyota australia does what Nissan Australia did (see 370z prices here and USA) then I will rather wait untill Mazdas next halo comes out and pay the ~65k for it..
That or I will grey import a my12 (assuming we get the my13 here) :p
