Thanks for the insight guys. I think I might go the rocketbunny route. Or custom widebody. You're right guys, the brz is more of a momentum car and corner specialist, not straight line. I'm running falken fk510's and the airlift struts are just BC coilovers with bags over them, so I have 32 way adjustable dampening. Going to get stiffer anti sway bars too. But aside from an intake, are there any other bolts ons that are low risk in terms of reliability issues and good reward?

i don't see any reason for stiffer sway bars, and the gains from changing the airbox are 'butt dyno' improvements at best. i believe most claim 5-8hp, which amounts to a minor elevation change..
gone are the days of bolting on 50 hp airboxes. the oem's don't design them that terrible anymore. my suggestion is to enjoy the car for what it is.

no need. I am into more technical type lateral stuff and quite satisfied with stock. my first mod, if any, would be LCAs to take out some rear camber back to 1 or 1.1 degrees.
pull up where I live and look at highway 32, clingmans dome road, little river rd and, of couse, the dragon. I use 2nd and 3rd mostly and 4th is good to 108 or so. I use 5th and 6th maybe ten times a year. |

Solution:
Take your mod money, get a cheap reliable beater car. Then take the leftovers and you can do whatever you want without worrying about opinion. If I have any questions about reliability or performance for a car I drive on a daily basis (especially for work or critical things), I keep it simple. My current fun car has been sitting in the garage for months because I'm too lazy to fix my suspension bushing issues (and the "fix" I came up with was to buy KW V3...) |

I would just keep it as it is with just little “bolt on” mods. Maybe e85 if available. Upgrade the suspension with quality parts. Keep nice and simple. You can go either direction, but I personally would go boosted if I had to pick. Tons of people have gone FI with no issues. Just gotta be smart about it. Widebody is cool, but somewhat overdone. It’ll slow you down like you said and would really only be for show. If you kept the car as it is looks wise, it would be a bit of a sleeper. Your choice though. Getting a beater daily is also a good idea given your commute. That way, if you have issues with the BRZ, you have something reliable to get around. Keep in mind that less is more and there’s no coming back after you start cutting the car up lol Good luck and nice car! |

this is no different than anyone else bragging about saying they bought a $90k lexus, and then complaining when people say that a $40k lotus will be able to out-handle it. suspension is voodoo, wrapped in an enigma, coated in big words. $7k would have gotten you really close to this, had you spent it on spring and damper upgrades instead of an air tank and compressor. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139592 Quote:

i think the main problem here is that you're trying to make the car into a 'do-all' swiss army knife of cars.
cars CAN'T do it all. you can have a track-focused monster, but sacrifice streetability in the process. you can have airbag suspension to adjust the ride height, but it'll never handle the same as a car with proper springs and progressive dampers. you can't have a boost in power without some hit on reliability in some way. and lastly, you're 23. save your money for more important things. i can bet you that you're not going to keep this car more than 10 years at best. history is in my favor.
