And on to replace the damaged radiator and A/C condenser...with a little upgrade!
22 days since I picked it up.... Tomorrow I will order the replacement underbody fuel & brake line assembly, drivers airbag and a few other bits & pieces I need. Hopefully will get the fender & bumper to the body shop for paint this week too! Last edited by Opie; 08-23-2021 at 11:23 AM. |

Don't have a lot of time on weeknights to do a whole lot to the car...but tonight got the fender bracing final coat of paint on, installed the lower bumper bracket/radiator ducting and the windsheild washer resevoir. Drop the fender, fender garniksh and front bumper cover off at the body shop tomorrow for paint, and the rest of the parts needed for completion and state inspection should arrive. Should make for a really busy weekend. Got to drop the fuel tank to replace the brake/fuel line assembly...might start that tomorrow after work...

So I've received a few PM's about what type of shop I am using, what training I have, etc. in order to take on a project like this.
As far as the "shop", all the work done on the car has taken place in my garage, at my house. As far as training, I have fairly extensive Subaru mechanical repair experience, but no previous metal work, body or paint experience. Metal body work was done using a 5lb sledgehammer, a 16oz ball-pein hammer, a standard drill, a close quarters drill a 4" angle grinder, a dremmel tool, a borrowed welder and many miscellaneous bits & hand tools. All the underbody and fender bracing paintwork has been done using spray primer, sealer & two specially ordered cans to match the factory paint (OEM base gray for under hood and OEM base silver coat). Labor has all been completed by myself with the help of my wife and some welding help from a co-worker. Parts are a mix of used as I could find them, and new. |

You've gotten a lot done quickly. This is really the path to go if your building a track car as long as the frame/suspension isn't completely mangled.

Nice work man! When it comes to painting the fender and door, do not try and paint it without having access to a full sized spray gun. Silver is very hard to spray evenly and it is impossible to spray anything larger than a foot wide with a spray can. Don't ask me how I know....

Fender & front bumper cover are being painted by a body shop...wasn't gonna try that myself. I know my limits...lol Just a little work tonight, paint was dry so I installed the LH fender bracing, reinstalled the hood latch and airbox, got the drivers headlight installed and 90% of the oil cooler done... Some backordered parts arrived today so I was able to tidy up some unfinished projects tonight:
Then the following week I should have a LH tie rod end that will let me finish up the suspension and if the body shop gets the fender & hood finished I might have it on the road the week of Aug 21st! |

Damn, nice work Will.
I have to help Darren with his 240 project, but if I have extra time I'll see if you need help. I need to drop the trans on graffiti soon to replace some shift forks... and need to drop some wheels/tires off at Mastro next week. Other than that I'm set for the next two track days (Road America and Barber). When are you doing Sebring next? And then when are you stepping it up to Road Atlanta?

This is really nice, especially for a track beast. I'd street the hell out of it but I guess I'm not that picky.
Great resurrection!

I'll be working on it for much of the day tomorrow, come on over if you get done on the 240! Once I get freed up on this I can help with the graffiti tranny. I'm signed up for Sebring on Oct 7th, might switch to the 8th or maybe do both days. Once I'm sure it's good to go and road worthy I want to make the trek to RA & AMP. How many more sets of tires do you need for graffiti? LOL, bring them by whenever. |

Even if it's not street legal I can tow it. You can drive my RS over and I can track that pig. Let me know what day you pick and I'll see if Aaron wants to sign up. I can sign up regardless. Plenty of spots open currently. The 7th likely works better since we would likely make it to our game. Otherwise, we'd have to roll really late Saturday or early sunday.. or skip hockey.
