I don't think it is an issue, but even if it was, they could use aluminum or carbon fiber for the doors.

Works for other cars

As mentioned though, OG Deloreans were known for collapsing doors. Which is partly why the Merc's struts are noticeably beefier. But yeah, this new one is currently vaporware, so we'll see how it looks when they actually build one.

Well, there was only one strut too.

Another example.

it feels really dull to me. other than the door swing, i'm really struggling to see any familial resemblance to the old delorean. it seems it's more a new company jumping on the ev bandwagon than a reincarnation of an old brand.

basically none of the positives, but all of the baggage...

If I'm able to go through time, I make enough money betting on sports to afford new door struts every year.

As long as it can outrun Libyans.

I'm willing to bet that they will use this car to remake Back to The Future

It has some retro styling in the tail lights, but I don't really see a need to make it similar to the original, as a retro car. It has been 40 years, so it can look like anything. Even cars that had continuous models were not always similar generation to generation like the fox body mustang to the 90's mustang or the jump from the R34 to the R35 GTR, and there are many more examples.

I think what the article misses is that many companies have worked together to make cars, and many have had models that were identical besides the styling like with DSM cars, the 86, Miata/Fiat, etc. I can totally see a future where skateboard powertrains are produced by a few manufactures and sold to multiple car companies for personalization. DMC could be a company that use someone else's powertrain to power their vehicles and simply focus on the interior and exterior design. Just saying, it is possible.

I think the drive article does have a good point though, there needs to be something fundamentally different to be worthwhile, and nothing in the render so far has that. Maybe it will be seating comfort, or even something with the UI. But as you said, it's been 40 years.. at this point, it is just a render, for yet another ev, from a brand that outsourced the digital design to another firm, and might not even have a production facility, let alone parts suppliers yet.

building cars is hard. I'll believe they exist once they get closer to current Rivian production status.

So, we really are going back to the future, to where coachworks once again exist. Personally I like the idea.

You need to check your eyes. There's 2 struts on each door on all of them.

I know. I was replying to the fact that the original Delorean had one strut, which may be why they weren’t reliable for staying open, while showing other cars with two struts, like the render, and these cars appear to do fine with two struts, even if it seems like the doors wouldn’t hold.
