Haha, yeah I'm trying to get his company to cut me a check so that we don't have to run it through either of our insurance. We'll see how lucky I get.

Glad no one was hurt.
I was thinking the same about the headlights and antenna, but the paint will probably be worse. Even a skilled painter can't usually match the perfection of a multi-million dollar robot in a factory, but I think it would be hard to notice.

sorry to hear about the accident, hopefully those dents will go away and be completely unnoticeable
This just re-assures my belief in not driving behind a Prius!

That's exactly the bottom line. When I saw his truck I stopped and jogged over to it as fast as I could with my phone's camera ready. He was VERY cool about the whole situation, and couldn't believe I wasn't pissed off. I kept telling him, I'm just glad you didn't take off, and no one got hurt. Stuff happens.

Well, I got the estimate done at the dealership where I bought the car, and the dealership is also one of my clients that I do IT and Network support for. I spend a LOT of time there (over 160 users) so I know them all very well and they're great people. The guy who did my estimate is the manager for the paint and body shop between all the dealerships in their group, and we talked for a while about the situation before the estimate. He was confident there are a few places "that'll buff out", because as he admitted, the factory paint job will still be better than his best guys. I'm guessing that's how the cost broke down.

I have the estimate scanned, all 3 pages, if you guys want me to post it let me know. I might just do it anyways.

They'll probably repaint most of the car, and the paint will probably be a lot thicker than the 2 microns or whatever the stock paint thickness is.

I'd like to see the whole quote for no other reason than curiousity.

Oh wow, yeah. I didn't think about if that same thing happened on a bike. Damn that's scary.

Wow similar thing happened to my Mazda3 a year ago. My drivers mirror was completely gone and the front fender was dented.

Scariest part was being helpless to avoid getting hit at 65 mph in that fraction of a second. I surely didn't need coffee to wake me up that morning.

Glad you got through it without getting harmed.

Yup, it happened faster than I had time to really think about it. I ducked (thank you subconscious always-on motor functions), but if I didn't see it bouncing around in my rearview mirror, I would still have no idea what it was.

Well from my own experience I had a wreck, and it didn't look bad at all. I was estimated $5600. Total damages after all was fixed the correct way was a little over $13000. So, yes, cars in general can become expensive to fix.

Yeah, okay. I actually went through this and am in a lawsuit with my insurance company because of this. I believe I know what I'm talking about. I am actually offended you think you are more experienced considering the fact that you have NO IDEA what my job is. But please, continue to tell me how you know more.
