Yeah, you're right. I've spent the last twenty years looking at turbo maps! Durr..

It's always feasible to run the s/c near max speed then bleed off what you can't use due to det.. just seems such a waste, no pun

Excuse my noobness, all I know about superchargers I've learned in the past month trying to gather information from the many posts about vortech.

If I bought the complete kit from vortech, would I need a tune from perrin or visconti to get the most out of it if I was planning to stick with 91 octane?

I know it comes with a tune and is the kit only CARB certified with that tune?

Kit is only CARB certified with Vortech's tune.

As far as getting the most out of it, (comparing 91 Octane tune from Vortech, Perrin and Visconti) you will get more out of it with Visconti or Perrin.

@Brian@Vortech - If someone were to order the tuner kit today, how long would it take to ship?

I can appreciate the upgrade to a larger supercharger but why was the original underspec'd? Is it that the 2L flows a lot more than the engineers predicted. Also it seemed a quick swap are the tunes optimized and not just running rich seems like a lot of time was spent tuning the original wheel then the new wheel ust appeared out of now where.

Where I live we have emmisions inspections where they plug into the ODBII, any codes even if reset within 100 miles fails so the tune has to be bullet proof for a longevity perspective.

Also does the larger blower add more stress on the front crank bearing? I've heard of supercharger stress wear out alternator bearings from the load, but I imagine the front crank bearing would be receiving a larger load.
Any history with Vortecs on Subaru boxers long term ?

I'm pretty sure they underspec'd it so that you can upgrade to a larger supercharger. If they only made a larger supercharger, people would complain that you couldn't upgrade it.

I think the reason they "underspec'd" it is because they weren't sure how much pressure the engine would be able to handle. Once they realized the engine can handle more, they had to upgrade the s/c so it could flow at those pressures (and higher) efficiently.

IMHO, this are details that need to be ironed out in your R&D process, not sell to public, and then finish up R&D. It's like having free test mules out there who paid you money for a "finished" product. That aside, kudos for them for upgrading the charger free.

I'll let Vortech answer that one, I don't want to speculate any further then I already have.

But I agree.

Yeah, I am speculating too based on how it "looks", but its just that speculation and opinion.

At the end of the day they did replace that compressor with a better suited one that is performing well. I look forward to seeing/hearing/riding a Vortech powered 86.

@Brian@Vortech how back logged are you guys currently? As in you complete X amount of blowers per week, and you have Y amount of orders currently to fill.

Doing our best to catch up, but the orders are still coming in like crazy. Our aim is to get the orders down to a 7-10 day lead time. We aren't there yet, but we a trying.

Thanks to everyone for your patience.
