I wasn't even worried about the radio when I did it, the screen will just fit either the width or the length of the photo, and add black where there is space left.

Not sure why it's acting funny for you. You don't have the radio manual in the car?

I have read the manual for changing the Splash Screen. I have done what it says. And it still gives me "Image file failed to read." I've been saving the picture as a .jpeg/.jpg and it still wont read it. My HU is the Pioneer AVIC X9310. If anyone has that HU and was able to change their Splash screen, can you guys give me an advice? Please and thank you!
=)

I have done a .jpeg size of 397kb and a dimension of 949x534. The manual says, it has to be either .bmp or .jpg/.jpeg and it has to be less than 6mb with a dimension of 2592x1944. So, now I'm all confuse. =(

I'm running into the same trouble as Shiba,
canadian HU, SDHC card, pictures saved to the root of folder path in JPG

my HU won't even give me the prompt to view images when I insert the card
even tried putting a picture onto the OEM Map card root and nothing. closest I can get is in settings- display- "custom image" or "initialize" and neither provide a prompt.

after some digging I found that the manual we have in the canadian model is a carbon copy of the american manual and refrences the wrong head unit#

I'll keep at it, right now I am just trying different card formats ntfs, fat-32 etc to see if it is a card problem or a filename problem

update: might be worth noting that the HU will not read any cards above 8GB so the 16 I have been using was why it won't search the card

update: 2GB SD card, picture 720px tall, JPG extension (in caps), files stored in the root folder of the card, loaded the maps card first waited a second after it finished booting before ejecting that card (with the menu eject), inserted the pic card and everything worked
