Torque is a force, just like gravity, magnetism, weak and strong nuclear force, it is to quote wikipedia that which can cause an object with mass to change its velocity. 1lb.ft of torque is the amount of force required to move 1lb of mass (technically lb is weight, but we don't pay attention to that since we are usually staying on the same planet) 1 foot. Just remember force = mass x accelaration. Force causes a mass to accelerate.
Um. No.

1 ft. lb. of torque is the amount of torque on a fulcrum if 1 pound of force is applied 1 foot from the fulcrum in a direction perpendicular to the lever.

A pound in ft. lb. is a unit of force, as it usually is in physics.

Help! Could someone explain why hp figures are lower at the flywheel on the GT-86, please?

I understand manufacturers tend to under-declare published horsepowers (e.g. Nissan's GT-R) but rarely over it. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Well RWHP is always lower. My car makes 700 at the rear wheels on 30 psi so thats like 850 at the flywheel but I would never quote that figure. There is always loss usually 15-18% with manual car more for an auto.

Most ricers brag on flywheel but every real racer knows it all about the rear wheel son.

I wonder if most people who complain about the power came from the Subaru forum lol.

Highly doubtful. I've never seen a Subaru forum and I won't. The only Subaru I like is the BRZ.

Why not? With all this turbo, power, upgrade talk it sounds very much like a Subaru forum. I know because I was on those forums forever.

But you are forgetting that most people who speak of turbo's don't own a Subaru product. I would say a small percentage do. Take Ichi for instance. I think it's a collective amount of enthusiast from different brands combine.

Jesus, it's so weird coming from a forum where 400whp is the norm then coming here and see people creaming over 170...
