Can you educate me on the CARB certification? As I understand CARB is a California agency. How does CARB certification affect or play a role in other states? Is the complete kit currently street legal in all states other than California? If not, will it become street legal once certification is given?

Thanks!
As soon as I know about the MAF harness, I will pass on the information. Promise!

As stated by another member, CARB certification does emanate from the California based agency, but has been adopted by several other states as their guidelines as well. The certification process is lengthy and expensive, but we've never had any trouble being granted an E.O. on any system we set out to get one on. The FT86 system should be less complicated than others, considering none of the factory fuel components are required to be changed or upgraded. We have applied, so the process has begun. All complete systems sold prior to CARB approval are retroactively covered once the E.O. is issued.

Awesome. Thanks for the info about CARB!

I couldn't imagine it having an effect on the OBDII like that. It would be the same if you had a regular EcuTek tune. As long as codes are cleared, readiness should be fine.

Even if Vortech's mapping had codes shut off, it still wouldn't effect anything. When I had Hydra in my STi, I had an opensource tune done to my stock ecu that cleared all codes and the readiness so I could just literally plug it in and pass emissions.

@Brian@Vortech

Can you confirm this is the compressor map for the latest compressor supplied with the kit?

If so it appears that this supercharger may be able to flow up to 400bhp or so on a 2 litre engine. Assuming the engine is built/tuned correctly, would you support/warrant use of this package at boost levels as high as 1.0-1.2 bar on the FA20? It doesn't appear that it would be over-speeding according to this graph.

Thanks!

Correct. This compressor map is for the H67B compressor that is currently being included in all of the FR-S/BRZ systems.

Looks like that's with the 12psi pulley & e85 so yes it looks like this kit definitely supports 400bhp!

And that's warranted I believe, is that correct Vortech?

I think he's asking if Vortech would still warranty the device operating at 1-1.2 bar (roughly 14.5-17.5 PSI).

Yeah, my power figure was based on pump fuel, which would be pushing this charger going by that graph.

As long as the supercharger is not being spun beyond the impeller speed max for the particular unit, it should be fine.

Brian, I just had a nerdgasm looking at that compressor map. For a small-displacement engine, that is BEAUTIFUL! That 70% island is huge!

ft_sjo, 45 or so lbs/min at 14-16psi looks great, but remember that boost is a measurement of how much more air the compressor is moving than the engine can ingest, and judging from the numbers we're seeing I think the only way to hit that kind of actual pressure ratio on the FRS/BRZ would be to overspin the blower. Pulley the blower to stay under max RPM at redline and whatever boost reading you've got is what you've got.

Back to my lunch...
