GT owners will still get the felt on the boot board - but yeah no boot liner.

What is puzzling though is WHY remove the 16" full size steel spare on the GT?

It is not intruding into cargo space - only reason is COST-CUTTING from Toyota and shafting its customers, knowing full well there are still plenty of people to take your place if you cancel.

It's not "shafting" anyone. Sure, it was a good thing for most people that on release it came with a full sized spare, but seriously, how many cars, especially small cars, come with full sized spares these days? One of the cars close competitors, mx5, comes only with goo.
RX8 came only with good and the space saver was an optional added cost extra.
And yes, the steelie spare on the gt DOES cut into boot space as well

It clearly is otherwise we would get it as a factory choice.

The donut is quite annoying to be honest. At the moment I can only put soft bags inside.

I used to put those plastic container/box in my boot but I can't anymore......

Although I live in the city, I don't feel comfortable without any spare. I think a space saver is a better option.

Lets agree to disagree because a can of goo and compressor would cost more than a steel wheel and tyre. Do your research on it and price those things up on an MX5.

Here is a link on Audi TT RS Repair Kit, it got him going long enough to limp back to the dealer to get another tyre.

Bottom line is: the can of goo and compressor is a cop-out measure by Toyota and nothing will ever replace a full spare - you can swap out for one perfectly good spare tyre and be alright rather than worrying whether that goo will hold out while you limp home!

Why not price it up from toyota?

The kit isn't expensive overseas:
http://accessories.toyota.ie/index.p...yre-repair-kit

That's about $85AUD right? I know we get raped on toyota spares prices in Aus but if you double it, it's still cheaper than a steel rim and tyre from toyota spare parts.

The Genuine kits are under $100 on ebay.

Because Toyota wont have it listed yet in dealer system. This thread is arguing semantics now. I've got better things to do, like shopping for parts for my new car.

Quoting from the article...

Quote:
Breen says the cost of replacing the full-size spare wheel, jack and wheel brace works out to about the same as the cost of fitting the compressor and can of tyre repair goo inside a special housing in the boot well.
So from what I read, not only is it that you don't get a spare, you wont get any jack or tools either.

Even if you got a spare some other way you still need to spend money on tools and a jack so you can change it.

Quote:
Breen said a space-saver spare tyre was not available for the Toyota 86.
"That option wasn't available to us," Breen says. "I can't tell you why. All I know is that the option for us was the tyre repair kit."
I can't understand why this is the case since other markets use a space saver...

The tyre repair kit would have been useless for me a couple of years ago when I ran over a meat hook on the highway... Unless they now can stitch a sidewall back together.... :P

Kind of offtopic...

Sucks they have decided to remove the full sized spare etc. As people have said i'm sure you would be able to find people to trade for the full sized spare as others are ditching them.

Agreed the donut does get quite annoying but i still find having enough boot space to fit whatever you need - you can still easily fit a few slabs of beer cases, i'm sure it would be more if the donut wasn't there haha

And the other day i was able to just fit one of hte big luggage suit cases in the trunk still when picking up a friend from the airport, provided that it is not overly stuffed lols

lol 12 pages i may as well contribute since everyone is having their 2 cents so will i.

my missus' mazda 2 tire got a pretty bad puncture yesterday 2 splits in the tire, and i had to meet her and change her tire to a space saver, i took it to my mechanic and got the tire replace upon asking if the goo would've helped he said no, for me a full size spare is peice of mind, will i try to get one thrown in for free? yes. but if i dont get it will it be the end of the world? no, because in short i'll be getting wheels and then i'll have 4 spare tires to put in the boot, all i want is peice of mind, do i think its cost cutting? not really its not like they are taking something out without replacing it with something else.
