Not sure why other manual drivers complain, I guess we will have to hear from them. But I have never experienced that myself. I was just stating my opinion that I actually prefer to drive the manual vs. auto in traffic. But that is just my preference. Even in stop and go traffic at most you are making one shift 1-2. If it is like any major city traffic (LA/Atlanta/Dallas/Chicago/NYC/DC..etc.) during bad rush hour/traffic accident/road construction, you could probably just stay in 1st gear as you won't be doing more than 15-20 mph. So as traffic moves you get up to speed 15-20mph and then you can put it in neutral as you coast and as the cars in front of you begin to hit their brakes. Then you can wait until you get to do it all over again. Personally I hate having to keep my foot on the brake the whole time in a auto.

^that

Oh and half the time people who say that a manual is harder to drive in traffic either 1) have never driven a manual and use that as a reason as to why they aren't driving one or 2) they don't know how to drive a manual in traffic.

Yes, its easier to eat a sandwich, talk on the phone, drink your coffee and apply your makeup while driving an auto in traffic, but if you are in fact *driving* as opposed to everything else, I think the traffic argument is not so clear cut as some people make it out to be. If anything, the two are comparable. I honestly prefer a manual in traffic for pretty much the same reasons that were pointed out in the quote above. I can also see why some people just prefer an automatic. Still, one is not clearly superior over the other when it comes to that issue.

now can't we all just get along :happy0180:

This thread should've stayed dead because it's pointless. Nobody will change another persons mind on here. I have driven manuals, auto, and sport auto and no DCT. In my experience a sport auto was like having your cake and eating it too. I used to hate when I would try to have fun with a manual tranny car, then all of a sudden I'm driving behind of less enthusiastic drivers and I would have to granny shift it and it became a total bore for me. It was part time fun and not 100% fun like I hoped for. I don't live in areas where there is hardly any cars so I felt it was pointless. With a sport auto I realized I could do the same thing like a manual but without the clutch and its "sometimes hard to get engagement" feel. When the roads get clogged up I slip it in "A" and when the roads cleared up I slip it in "M" and back and forth. My point is I don't share the same opinions as the "only drive manual or die" crowds.

You guys do know autos have a park gear right? If your really stuck in traffic for such a long period of time that holding the break pedal down becomes a nuisance just put it on park, the great thing about the park gear is if you won't roll if the road isn't flat. Plus autos can do all that switching from first to neutral without using a clutch.

If you need to do all that shifting to keep yourself from being bored out of your mind then fine, I can see how manual is good for that. But if you don't like shifting all the time then being stuck in traffic will bother you.

SoCal has some nasty hills too. And there are plenty of people who love tailgating up a hill.

I need a sticker on my car saying..
"I ROLL BACKWARDS"

So they can stop riding my car's ass. Seriously. Nothing gets me more pissed off than driving up hill and the guy behind me is right up on my car's ass.

^I like to give myself some space in front then roll back and forth a little before I completely stop (it's easier to balance when you're still moving back/forth for some reason) to tell the driver behind me that I CAN/WILL roll into them. Then I pull forward into the little space I made for myself and stop.

Thought about auto then realized I might regret it. I'm sticking to manual.

Hypothetical question: If you had a Supra TT with 100k miles, would you sell it to get an auto FR-S/BRZ? Assume you only drive automatic.

I don't want to burn my clutch going up and down on a hill. Lol I just leave a big gap infront of me so if I have to make my car jump.. I'll do it because the douche bag behind me doesn't want to keep a distance.

And if I did have a supra TT with 100k miles. Yes I would sell it to get the Auto BRZ.

Technically if a tailgater follows you up a hill too close, when you roll back and hit them, its their fault for following to close.

But e-brake is your best friend when going up steep hills in stop-n-go traffic, especially in SF. ahh I Love SF

Thanks for the input. My dad seemed set on his Supra as I fed him FT-86 news these past couple years. Only recently w/ all this hype did he start following the ft86club blog... now I'm having 2nd thoughts of him giving up the Supra.

I thought the FR-S has kill start assist, so we should be fine =D
I hate having traffic on hills too, which isn't too bad here cause they don't put a stop light every couple of meters, what gets me is how steep the "hills" are I swear some of them makes you feel like you're driving at a 70 degree angle.

Manual or Auto, either way the car will be awesome! Get the one that fits you best. I will be picking up an auto BR-Z.

In a RWD car? It sounds like you'll just be stuck. Lol
