I hate to brag, but I bought My '14 FR-S in Nov. 2014 at the ripe old age of 79. Because of limited funds, garage space etc., I had to sell my 85 MR2. Had been tracking/instructing w/it for 16 yrs. Lovin' the FR-S, and I'll spare you all the way back stories. As you know how the old saying goes: The older I get, the faster I went! Carry on all you geezers!
PS: Do I win the grand prize? A lifetime bus pass maybe? Jerry Helman Senor Dos w/ my FiR-St Scion, whom I have also outlived! |

Picture of a picture but the only one I have left. This is a car I built with a friend way back in the late 70's. We spent pretty much every week-end at Cayuga Dragway Park breaking the thing trying to go faster and do bigger whee-lstands. It was evil to drive and at one point actually did manage to stand it on the rear bumper. It destroyed the 240Z front suspension when it landed.
Big block Chevies do get the job done.

I know I saw that car there and think I even went up against it once (Green 70 Coronet R/t). I know for a fact I talked to the guys about it so odds are we have actually met (al long time ago in a galaxy far away). It is completely possible that if I can ever find my old pictures that your car is at least in the background of one or two.

Mine would have over a million. Wonder what that extended warranty would cost?

This thread has been great
I can't believe how this thread is still going and everyone is getting along. I was getting bored on the forum, due to nothing really going on. And out comes the old man thread. Other than someone telling us how much we should weigh, it has been quite civil. And it's just great to hear from you guys. The twins give such new meaning to driving again.
I was a Nissan guy for 20 years or more. Always liked their builds over the rest. Finally got my '89 Maxima as my 1st new car. Man I was styling with a couple of hot chicks at my side with blonde hair to their butts (wife and daughter). The Maxima was getting reviews that were stellar. I remember one magazine "The Maxima is so well put together and styled that it would be at home with royalty driving it". It supposedly was designed at the Nissan Design studio by a team that was told to make the car perfect for six foot tall adults and have it handle like a sports car. I don't know if there were any Japanese cars beforehand that had an American design one. But the funny thing was that I stalked that same studio when it was the Datsun design studio. I lived about a mile away from it in California. So I delved deeper into the making of the car and found out how much of a game changer this was for the Japanese car. I still have my '92 Maxima SE and it's such an improvement over my '89. Limited Slip front wheel drive made the car handle full throttle in the corners so much better. I have probably put $15,000 more into the car since then. At one time I had 3 motors and 2 trannies. The reason I am bringing this up is...... not since my Maxima have I seen a Japanese car designed with such refinement and thought than the twins. The car will be a classic forever. To have a design team from both companies get together and make the most fun vehicle to drive is what most of us here have been waiting for. It's just nuts how they nailed it with this car. I always dreamed that Japan would figure out how to make a car like this. I thought Nissan was going to do it. The Z car just didn't do it for me. The new ones don't fit me very well with the seats and its seems like a vibrating pig (sorry Nissan). The engine did not do well over 3.0 liters in my mind. It just didn't feel right. I remember going to the Toyota Dealer looking for an S2000, and the salesman says "I got something better". There was the FRS in the showroom and it was for sale in May. I thought the car wasn't supposed to get there until June. So I sat in the car for a half hour. They wouldn't let me drive it because I said I want a manual trans, and it was Auto. They were all looking at me and wondering when I was going to get out of the car. I just kept sitting there in amazement at the dream I always had in my head is a reality. The white rpm gauge with the digital speedometer (al la Porsche), and the purist feel was just what I had always wanted. The seats felt like racing seats, and the Bespoke Pioneer stereo looked so cool. The whole interior package just speaks volumes to a real street racer and sports car guy. Well I went home and got onto the internet and the phone and tried to locate a manual trans one before they sold out. The dealers in Jacksonville weren't any help and blew me off. All of the dealers in Florida had the FRS marked up $5,000 over list. It was like that and either you pay the premium or you didn't get the car. I called Daytona and I got someone who said they had a red one. I said no Lava? NOPE. I'm now glad I got the red. I put a deposit over the phone to hold it. Then they came and picked me up and took me on an hour drive to the dealership. They treated me like I was a celebrity (you would too for $5,000 extra), and I was on my way home with a new Red FRS in 45 minutes. That was an amazing experience for a car dealership and it was so cool to be one of the 1st in Florida to be driving a red manual. It wasn't until 7 months later did I see another red one. It took 2 months just to see another FRS. It looked like to all around me that I was driving an Italian exotic car. They were very rare down here for about a year. Still to this day, it is hard to find one with the color you want and manual down here. Daytona is selling the crap out of them. Anyway, I was bringing this up because no matter how much you may get bored with this car..... You will regret losing one of the most reliable sports cars ever made. I wish that a boxer 6 would be put into the engine bay, that's about it. Most of you know to change the wheels and tires to something stickier and lighter. I took off 32 lbs of unsprung weight with a new stickier setup. Within an hour of me getting home with the car from the dealership, I ordered a setup from Tire Rack. The stock setup doesn't do any justice to the perfectly setup suspension. Well it's another sunny day in Florida and time to go out for a ride. Hope I didn't bore you. BTW I tried to get out of the car with those directions and it didn't work. I just gained too much weight. Thanks for the info though. It's time to check the ocean out, and all the perks that come with it. LOL. |
