Skip to 0:39 for a brief mention of the BRZ where they summarize the driver's comments from that Inside Line track test which had no commentary.

Inside Line's performance testing is featured in an Autoblog post and the commentariat there are having a field day bashing the car for the usual reasons.

Inside Line says they recorded a 69dB at 70MPH with the engine turning 3050 RPM. That's pretty dang quiet. I had an old Ford Escort that the OD went out in that use to turn those kind of RPM numbers and it was no where near that quiet.

I have to laugh at all the 0 to 60 banter in this thread. Maybe in my younger days I might have wanted to just focus on 0 to 60 drag racing numbers. But now that a gray hair or two is starting to show I think I much rather enjoy a car that is well controlled with great feel and feed back. One that handles like it's on rails and communicates what's going on at the corners.
When people who make their living reviewing cars heap the kind of praise on a car like they are this car then I think it's about more than just 0 to 60 times. If they are comparing this car to a Porsche anything then this car was put together right. And the fact that I can go buy a new one for the price of a 6 year old Cayman. That makes me happy. If I was worried about 0 to 60 times I'd go get a Busa. |

Robert Parker has rated the DRC 1986 Roman้e-Conti 94/100. It cost around 8,000 euro/$10,000 a bottle depending on where you purchase it from. Now, there is no way i'm paying 10k for a bottle of wine but look at the rating Parker gives it: 94/100. Tell me, what does that number tell you about the wine? Nothing. It describes nothing. It is just a rating. How do you measure seat of the pants? How about steering feel? If all you are chasing are numbers then, and I know it's been said before, this is not the car for you. [/rant] |

The irony is that many of these people don't have the slightest clue what is involved with driving a car near its limits anyway.

As far as the price differential, I'm considering two things, swapping out the 288K mile V6 in my Chevy Astro with a small block V8 (its a near direct swap) once it hits 300K later this year and/or using the remainder towards a good Cessna 182. On the other hand, maybe I'll just save it all for a down payment on the F-22. They build them about 10 miles from my house so no destination charges.

Judge the BRZ on its acceleration alone and you'll be disappointed.
I think that says it all.

I haven't driven one myself but from the reviews I'm delighted since the last car I owned that was driver focused was the S2000 and that is one car I wish I still had and will probably pick one up in the future that is if I can find an un-molested/stock one. |
