This was in my "Barry Gibb" college days.

I had to pick this damn differential up like 40 times yesterday so that I could convince it to become part of the Miata suspension cradle. Ford 8.8 diffs are not all that light!

Found a couple pictures of my first car (and first dirt bike). They're not very good pictures (pictures of pictures). I don't have one of those new fangled scanner things. It's a 1965 Toyota Corona. Most likely the most durable car I've ever owned. After about the forth time the engine seized due to lack of oil the car was finally dead for good.
So my ride became the Honda SL 100. The bike had a megaphone for the exhaust. It was so loud, I got pulled over one day on the way to school. The cop said "follow me". So I followed him to the Police Station where they impounded my bike until my parents came and bailed it out. I took a VW tailpipe and jammed it into the megaphone and that made it quiet enough. I would remove the tailpipe when I went offroad to get that "extra power". In reality it just made it louder. But I needed a CAR. Something where I could bring my friends along.

So I got a used 1971 Toyota Corolla. It had a 1200 CC engine and 12 inch wheels. Definitely not a cool car. But it got me where I wanted to go but not for long. About two weeks after I got it I totaled it.

I just dropped my friends off and was driving home at about 2 o'clock in the morning. There were 3 cars on the road. Me, the car in front of me and the car behind me. Suddenly the car in front of me slammed on his brakes. So I slammed on my brakes and I think the guy behind me stepped on the gas. And BAMM. I had to climb out the window because the door wouldn't open. I was OK and so was the guy in front of me. The police showed up almost immediately. I'm sure they could have heard it from the other side of town.
So we went to check on the guy behind me and it was an old couple who refused to get out of the car or even roll down their windows. So the police gave me a ride home.
The next day I went to check on the the damage. Every body panel was bent including the roof. It had a glass pack muffler (of course) that was sticking 3 feet past the bumper. And my glasses were gone. I found them a couple days later in the trunk. Apparently the speakers flew out of the rear deck and my glasses fell into the trunk.

But there IS a happy ending.
The insurance paid me twice what I paid for the car and I went and bought a pea green Mazda RX3. And that WAS a COOL Car.

To be continued at a later date.

This here is a fantastic photo!

It's got great action, movement, exiting angle, nice composition, loads of interesting detail in both foreground and background. My compliments to the photographer. (I assume that's you on the bike there)

The other one is cool too, btw :-)

I was 74 in January. My FRS replaced my 350Z, which replaced the Miata, which replaced the MR2 turbo...well, you get the picture.

My first sports car was '56 TR3 that I bought when I graduated from college in '65.
