The 86 without a doubt has the better chassis, there is zero question between the two as to which is the superior chassis.

Since the videos of the Lightning laps haven't been posted, here they are for you to see for yourself:

Genesis is still almost 5 seconds faster around the track, even with the driver moaning about how "badly" it drives the whole time.

The power does have its trade offs.

LOL why is the 3.8 v6 being compared to a 2.0 liter 200 bhp 86?! such a dumb comparison. that actually makes the 86 look more impressive and the genesis coupe 3.8 less

I don't know, feel free to ask Car and Driver.

5 seconds is enough of a significant margin on the track. [Take that back what I had posted here, I remembered out of the top of my head the laps being 1 minute 1x seconds. They're in fact 3 minutes+. Still, after 10 laps, the 86 is theoretically already 50 seconds behind.]

That was my impression and I thought the vast majority agreed. For some reason instead of getting that confirmation from the forum, I got a lot of people not willing to choose or side step the question all together.

I answered that very question on my first post.

The 86 does in fact have the better chasis. For road driving, it's a matter of choice. For track driving, the 86 outperforms the Genesis in handling, at the loss of 148 horsepower. It's all a matter of picking your poison.

Nope. Each consecutive lap gets worse for the Genesis because the excess weight and poorer chassis ripping the tires and brakes apart. The 86 would actually start catching up as the Genesis loses time due to wear and fade despite being down 150hp.

Because we all know the strong suit of the twins are their brakes and tires, am I right?

The reviewer himself said the breaks on the BRZ were unusable after the first lap. And hey, let's not forget the oil temperature!

You want to manage brake fade using 2700lbs or 3500lbs? Thought so. Yeah, let's not forget how much of a pig the Genesis coupe is!

The Brembos on Genesis seem to be a total waste of money and that upgraded suspension doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. You can add an oil cooler (or just better oil than 0w-20), you can't add magic tires that won't shred and melt on that chassis as it already even comes with grippy summer tires that fail after one lap.

Tires and brakes don't like racing with the equivalent of 2-3 extra NFL linemen strapped to the car.

It's already well known that the pads on the R-Spec are not up to Brembo standards, and a simple replacement makes significant improvements. The same can't exactly be said for the BRZ.

As for the weight difference, 1) the Genesis still holds a higher power to weight ratio than the twins, and 2) what exactly did you expect from a car with a 3.8L V6 vs a car with an H4 2.0L Boxer? Building a car with more power isn't simply about putting a bigger engine under the hood. The parts that go alongside it have to be rated to handle the physical torture that comes with said difference. And unless it's at the expense of heavier, stronger parts, or insane R&D and/or exotic materials, you're more than welcome to buy a 335i.

The Genesis is obviously the faster car. Upgrade the pads and equalize the tires on the frs and genesis and you'll likely see the frs get even closer in time despite the power difference. Either way, the Genesis is more of a gt than a track car. Get it with the automatic. Or better yet, get the v8 Mustang or Camaro.

Mustang? Camaro? I thought we were talking about cars with an actual chassis?

Even then, the V8 Mustang starts at 2 grand more than the Gen Coupe(29k), while the Camaro v8 starts at 34k.

Pad swap won't improve braking performance on the 86?

The extra 800lbs is from having a 350hp motor?

Cool story bro. What's your reason the Gen Coupe is the same size as a Mustang? Americans like to eat??

Exactly. If that was type of car I could stand to drive every day, I'd get a new Stang and rape Gen Coupes all day in whatever metric they choose to hold dear to their little hearts.
