I have a 2013 BRZ but want to put 2017+ OEM headlights on it. My question is about the DRL.

2013-2016 use the DRL LED strip in the front bumper, 2017+ use the boomerang in the headlights for DRL. What would happen when I use 2017+ headlights in my 2013? Would the DRL be the LED strip in the front bumper and also the boomerang in the headlights or which one would be the DRL?

The boomerang won the headlight work work just like it did in the 2013-2016 (only when your running lights are on via headlight switch).

The bumper running lights would work only as DRLs.

If you want you can use a harness to make either or be on al the time or during specific circumstances. What do you want them to do?

My front bumper got tore up from rocks that were on the highway and it’s probably cost the same to repair my 2013 front bumper vs get a new 2017+ one. So I’m torn, one day I like my 2013 bumper more cuz it reminds me of 90’s JDM styling, for some reason it vaguely looks RX-7-ish to me. But some days I like the 2017+‘s more aggressive front bumper more. I think I probably want to keep the 2013 and use it’s LED strip.

So the 2017+ headlights’ boomerang will only work as parking lights like the 2013-2016 headlights do, unless I use a harness to enable the boomerangs for DRL? That sounds spot-on unless I have a change of heart and go for the 2017+ front bumper. Dual oil coolers in the fog light spots of a 2017+ is an enticing idea, I’d definitely want to use the boomerangs as DRL in that case.

I went with a 2017 bumper, vlands which are plug n play, OLM vertical DRLs and Morimoto HIDs, and I couldn’t be happier. I decided to forgo fog lights for a cleaner look and because I don’t think they are entirely necessary. Considering my headlights are lower than fog lights on most trucks. Yes they are brighter than yellow fogs, but I also don’t see much fog or commute far.

I believe in order to bolt the 2017+ headlights in you need to move 1 or 2 pins/wires in the headlight harness to match up, but they will work like stock beyond that.

ill be doing the brz fog light repin today. i saw it first on this video. you swap the drl and fog pins with each other. it allows to have the boomerangs on with the fogs, no drl/no headlight. you basically send power to the fog when it otherwise would have been powering the drl. its going to look like this, and ithink its mean.

Upgrading all lights on my 2013 to white LEDs to have a more modern look. I have a series 10 which has HIDs stock already but the bulbs are OEM which means they are 4300K and 6 years old now. Trying to match 6000K. Anyone with HIDs which bulbs did you use? Also these only replace low beams correct?

6000k will match but I’d go 5000k for performance. The whiter the light the worse they are in rain and poor weather.

Regardless I’d recommend either

Osram CBI D2S bulbs
Or
Osram CBB D2S bulbs

Either can be found from the retrofitsource. If you need help ordering let me know.

Yes. Some use D4S. Others use d2s.

Most brz’s use D4S. Check what you currently have. Good catch

I would also throw out diode dynamics as a choice, they have great quality products! I believe they are the D4S bulbs and that is for low beam and high beam with the same bulb.

Yup I saw there bulbs as well. Leaning towards morimoto 5500k bulbs. 3 sets for the price of one set of the osram's

I need to do some research

If you're willing to shell out OEM money, TRD sells a 6000K HID bulb in D4S for those headlights.
