We don't know what is the IAM value on a stock (untuned) car. Someone mentioned once that whenever you turn on the engine, the IAM is starting with a 0.7 value. A tuned car will start with a 1.0 value. Maybe this explains some differences: 7-10ish hp lower for the stock car.
This is the reason I have a preference on aftermarket parts from respectable sources/manufacturers. It is very easy to be cheated by someone and dynos doesn't tell always the truth. At least the chances to be cheated are smaller ... |

Can't we just turn the thread title into
"Fantastic Dynamometers and where to find them" Or "How to train your unicorn: a debate" Or "Trolls" ...And lock it up ...And call it a day?

This is probably why theres so many threads started on the same topics
New user searches how to gain power without forced induction Comes across this thread and finds it had nothing to do with his search Starts a new thread then gets flamed for not searching enough |

That answer has been boiled down to the essentials in the subforum sticky threads though. Catless header, air filter, tune, eventually open up the rest of the exhaust as well. For more than that they need to read celek's build thread.

why? This is fun to read all these people with actual degrees arguing this stuff. This is better reading than most of the other stuff on the internet, even when i think people are taking stuff and misapplying it just so they can argue more. It makes me wish I had the work ethic to get an engineering degree, but I am honest and realize I am just too lazy.

I'd refrain from taking everything people post on here as gospel truth. Sure, most of the stuff mentioned so far will help but the majority of commenters on here track their car or do some other sort of heavy pulling with it, and they leave these huge lists of parts which they say are "must haves" to get maximum performance. This creates the sense that an 86 stock is crap and needs to have an overhaul done to make it "good", when in reality there's very little you need to add to make it more exciting. People also post under the assumption that everyone has just as much access to resources as they do, such as a tuning shop, or buddies to help with installations, or simply cash, when a lot of people (including me) don't.
Drop-in filter is definitely recommended. The uel, catback and tune combo will also make a huge difference (people say ecutek is the only way to go but it isn't). These are the very basic things that are tried-and-true ways to increase power with these cars, everything else is optional and frankly unnecessary. Personally I would recommend getting cooling components if you plan to drive your car hard at least a little, but again it's not something you have to do. If you do track your car, though, then ignore everything I've said. |

I have an Ace header A/350, Delicious flex fuel, and an Ecutek tune. Those, are the must haves. I also run a stock exhaust currently, and a stock front pipe, and a 13 intake (17 doesnt allow for oil coolers, yet). |

I have to politely disagree there. I don't deny that flex fuel w/ ecutek creates more power than pump w/ oft, but you don't HAVE to have that difference to make the car fun. Again, not everyone is looking to pay the max to get the max. Some of us only want a little, and as long as the method is affordable and reliable than it's certainly worth considering. You also need to have a certified ecutek dealer near you, so basically if you don't live in California you're gonna have to go on a trip.

An Ace header on ACN 91 makes more power than almost any other header on E85. You can easily delete the FF kit, to keep cost down. The reason for the Ace header is not just more power, but the fact that it completely eliminates the torque dip. Other headers can delete the dip as well, but not without the overall power gains. Even with a very simple hp/dollar metric, the Ace actually has the highest hp/dollar ratio, when you also factor in the sunk costs of EcuTek and a tune. |

So is there a reason to go with the ACE 350 vs the ACE club 400?
