After about 6 laps I would back of and cool down as I would smell the pads. But they still worked

Is it safe to jack anywhere along the pinch weld that runs the length of the car? I'm thinking in terms of jack 1 side at a time for tire changes or whatever. Right now I'm jacking front/rear but it would save me some crawling on the ground if I can lift from the middle of the car on the side.

Questions about gear: ill buy a full suit in the near future, but what clothes are most appropriate for HPDE day? jeans and a tshirt? I bought some sparco racing shoes. you recommend any gloves or just raw dog it? I have a helmet already.

Cotton is cheap, and will briefly protect you from heat, which is why it's common. Generally speaking, I'll be in jeans and a t-shirt, unless a car has a modified fuel system, in which case I'll be knowing exactly how to get out of the car and make sure the doors are unlocked before I get in... |

It's worth knowing that not all suits are created equal. More here: http://www.sfifoundation.com/article-1/. Note the Time to 2nd Degree Burn data. I wear a three-layer suit with Nomex underwear when I'm in a race car. Not everyone finds a three-layer suit hot, but I get really hot inside my suit so I use a Cool Shirt Pro Air & Water Cooling System to to minimize overheating when I'm in my own car. If you choose to get one of these systems, skip the shirt and get a better one here: http://www.momousa.com/racing/advanc...?view=featured. Any helmet that allows air input will work; I use a Stilo with a top air port that blows the cold air over the top of my head and down the front of my face: http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/s...gt-w-composite. With that system, even ambient air is a terrific source for cooling the head. Last edited by dradernh; 09-29-2014 at 11:00 PM. |

Gloves and long sleeve shirt are good simply for protection from the pyrotechnics used to deploy the air bags. I've seen some nice forearm burns from them!

Long sleeves are probably a good idea just for sun protection when you're out all day. How many of those fires were on cars with stock fueling systems? I think Mike is right, again. That said, my father has a friend who was badly burnt in a car crash fire on the street. It does happen. Just not often.

On the stock suspension (stock ride height, springs, dampers, etc), how far can we compress the suspension before we are on the bump stops and start having issues? Put another way, how many lateral Gs can the car sustain before the stock suspension is overwhelmed?
