I still have it plugged with the plug from the glove box, but can't notice a difference with my lack of cats or resonators.

There's a high pitch air filter noise that you get when you start rev'ing higher - i mostly noticed it as i went from 3k+ RPM. Try sitting in your garage and rev your car with the plug off and on, windows closed and you should be able to hear the difference

Oh, I was referring to the original sound mentioned in this thread.

Well, I took out the cap today. The most annoying noise is not this tube sound, but wind and wheel.

just did this.. lol i think it sounds way better without that internal sound thingy they put it

i'm not sure if it's the 12v cover vibrating or w/e but i hear this vibration noise after doing this, i'm not sure if the noise was always there but was muffled by the internal sound tube.. but yeah does anyone have this weird rattling sound whenever you are over 3k RPM? i'm pretty sure it was coming from the sound tube area

Cool

Why are people wanting to rid the induction noise? This is part of what makes this car great!

We all have different preferences. Personally I like hearing the engine "normally" without an artificial piping of sound to the cabin.

Just like I wouldn't want one of those systems where artificial engine noise is put through the car audio system.

Cool

I plugged the sound tube with the AC adapter plug today and went for a drive to have a comparison. I find it too quiet. I will be removing the insides of the soundtube to increase my sound enjoyment

K&N drop-in (the stock filter sounds like ass) with the sound tube UNplugged--that's the best combo. The motor just does not sound fleshed out as is, that's why the engineers put the sound tube in.

Today, I plugged that hole with a metal cap used in electrical panels, and measured sound levels with a decibel meter phone app. Done with windows up, fan off, car warm.

Anyone with proper/calibrated equipment is invited to try this.

Results: Name: uploadfromtaptalk1410025722237.jpg

Size: 73.0 KB

RPM / dB / dB After
800 / 55 / 51
2000 / 64 / 65
4000 / 77 / 75
6000 / 76 / 79

While driving to and from a school parking lot 2 minutes away, where this was done, I noticed no qualitative change in tone or volume. I only got up to about 35km/h though.

I will be out and about the city/highway later, so I'll comment on the qualitative changes under load... If I'm unsatisfied, I'll replace the cap with a plastic or foam part.

UPDATE:

After driving on the highway, I can hear the difference. I've since added a plastic plug underneath, and capped it with the same metal piece.

The decibel meter still shows no improvement in neutral at a standstill.

Well that is revealing. The pure dB's are all over the place and do not correlate with what I hear, so I would like to see a frequency response at those same revs.

I've used a yellow cap that plugs 1/2" NPT email connectors. Much much improvement.

Again the decibel meter shows no noise reduction at a standstill but under load it's very noticeable.

I'm going to try this mod tomorrow.

I'm curious of the people who don't notice a difference, if they have a stock or TRD/aftermarket exhaust?
