Just two days back, we saw the first spy shots of the Lexus LF-LC, but those pictures didn’t reveal the prototype’s front. Here’s the first image of the Lexus LF-LC revealing its front, shot our friend Daniel DeRosa. In his note, he said that the test mule was spotted at Angeles Crest (in California, USA).

Unlike the concept, the test mule doesn’t feature the single frame Spindle grille apparently, but that must be just a measure to not make the car’s identity obvious to prying eyes. The previous spyshots hinted at L-shaped tail lamps, similar to the concept that featured integrated tail- and fog-lamps in the ‘L’ shape.

The Lexus LF-LC concept was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2012. The 2-door coupe concept featured a rear-wheel drive layout and a 2+2 seating. The company announced that it was powered by the Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive hybrid powertrain, keeping rest of the specifications a secret.

According to Peter Lyon of Motoring Australia, Lexus will debut the LC coupe in Detroit with two powertrains — the LC 500 and the hybrid LC 500h:

[The LC 500 will use] The same 351kW/530Nm 5.0-litre V8 propelling the RC F and GS F will most likely be married to a world-first 10-speed automatic transmission supplied by Aisin, which will aid performance efficiency.

The LC 500h on the other hand, will employ an all-new 3.5-litre V6 ‘multi-hybrid’ for rear-drive models, that will also be offered on the next-generation LS.

Based on the rumor, the LC 500h would have a revised version of the GS 450h’s hybrid powertrain using a redesigned engine and hybrid system. Lyons reports the LC 500h could have a 3.5 V6 engine with 308hp and an electric motor with 217hp, producing a combined 470 horsepower.

There’s also a passing mention of the LC F:
As the all-new LC 500 and LC 500h will debut in production form at Detroit we can look forward to a hot ‘F’ version in 2018, a coupe rumoured to be fitted with a circa-450kW (603hp) 4.0-litre V8 boosted by twin electric turbochargers.

Lexus has released a teaser image for a car that will be revealed in Detroit, but the image doesn’t actually reveal the model’s identity.

Tucked away in the “Future” section of the company’s website, the image announces the imminent arrival of a new model bound to show up next week at NAIAS. The skid marks on the road indicate we are dealing with a performance model and most likely the car in question is the rumored LC. This will basically be a production variant of the LF-LC concept and is expected to be offered in LC 500 and LC 500h flavors.

The LC 500 is said to utilize the familiar naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine taken from the RC F where it has 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. The LC 500h will reportedly have a new 3.5-liter V6 and an electric motor enabling a combined output of more than 470 hp.

If that’s not enough, Lexus has plans to launch a LC F around 2018 with a new 4.0-liter V8 equipped with two electric turbochargers boosting output to 604 hp or so. However, this is only a rumor at this point, so we'd better wait for a proper announcement concerning a potential flagship version.

We will find out for sure what Lexus is cooking up on January 11 during the first preview day of the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

Lexus is preparing for a world premiere next week in Detroit Motor Show and to keep everyone on its toes, they released this very short clip.

The audio is just six seconds long and features what sounds like an angry V8 waking up, so this new model might not be another hybrid crossover. Reports are suggesting that Lexus is going to unveil the production version of the LF-LC concept under the name LC 500.

The new model is expected to borrow the naturally aspirated 470hp 5.0-litre V8 engine from the RC F and GS F which sounds just like the engine on the clip, so we’ll bet our money on that option.

The production LF-LC will rival models like the BMW 6-Series and the Mercedes SL-Class when it reaches the market.

Lexus will reveal the mystery model in Detroit on Monday, 11 January.

Lexus tried hard to keep us from an early reveal of their new LC coupe but the first photo has found its way on the web.

Details on the new high-performance two-door coupe remain scarce but we expect the new LC to use the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 of the RC F and GS F which makes 470hp and will probably be mated to Aisin’s new 10-speed automatic gearbox.

This is essentially the production version of the Lexus LF-LC concept, with the company already securing the LC500 and LC500h nameplates with the US Patent and Trademark Office. This should mean that a hybrid version of the new LC Coupe is on its way as well.

From what we can see, the production version has managed to keep all the good things of the concept. The big hexagonal grille, the beautiful extended hips and even the styling of the headlights make the new LC one of the cleanest-looking and desirable models Lexus has ever given us.

The 2017 LC 500 shows where Lexus is headed. In this case it's not just a flashy grille and a big engine like earlier Lexus efforts. This time every facet of the engineering went into making the car handle better, and the styling and engineering were developed hand in hand. It won't set any sales records, but it will win a lot of eyeballs.

Why is Lexus making another coupe? That's a fair question, as slow-selling two doors don't do much to improve market share. The reason for the LC is to make a statement, both in terms of style and engineering. It looks remarkably close to the 2012 LF-LC concept. And underpinning the taut styling is a new global architecture that will underpin future cars like the LS.

The LC 500 is Toyota's way of saying, yet again, that it's serious about reforming the Lexus reputation into one that include performance and style. On paper the 467-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 (the same as in the RC F and GS F) performance claim looks like sloppy handwriting, but Lexus claims a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds. Rumors abound that more power will come to the LC lineup in a few years, most likely in some kind of turbocharged form. Backing up the engine is a ten-speed transmission. Yes, ten. Lexus claims the gearbox is nearly as fast as a dual-clutch automatic, and that the overall size is smaller than some eight speed 'boxes.

Underpinning the LC is an all new structure that includes carbon fiber reinforced plastic, aluminum, and high-strength steel. Torsional rigidity is said to be better than the all-carbon fiber LF A supercar. We're worried the ride could be on the stiff side, with run flat tires on both standard 20-inch wheel and the optional 21-inch wheels seen on the show car. All hope for retaining a pleasant ride lies with the suspension, which is nearly all aluminum. But as we mentioned, this car is skewed towards performance, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on show car promised new levels of lateral grip for a big Lexus. What's more promising is the claim that Lexus spend triple the standard time developing the steering feel and handling.

This could be the best-handling Lexus ever, but don't expect the LC 500 to be a Porsche 911 competitor. Preconceptions aside, the LC is bigger than a Carrera and that alone dictates a different character. The Lexus is closer to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and BMW 6 Series in size. At 187.4 inches long, it's about 10 inches shorter than the Benz. Like those two Germans the LC seats four, but you still probably don't want to sit in the back. Front seat passengers get to look at a digital dashboard with center tachometer, and a wide horizontal dashboard styling that evolves the current interior design theme.

On the technology front, the 2017 LC 500 comes with an optional package that includes all the driver-assistance goodies the company offers. That includes all-speed dynamic cruise control, lane-keeping assist, collision mitigation, and automatic high-beams. Also optional is a carbon-fiber roof, replacing the standard panoramic glass.

For Lexus, this car is more than simple sales numbers. It's a halo car, meant to show where the brand is going. Based on the concept car exterior and the gorgeous cabin, we're excited to watch the journey Lexus is taking.
