It looks like it's using the same 18" GR Yaris wheels which might have something to do with filling the wheel gap. Agreed about the wheel offset though. I've been trying to find more info on these wheels, but other than being 18", forged, and using 225/40/18 tires, there's not much more info out there. I'm going to speculate they're at least 18x7.5 or 18x8.0 based on the tire width. The offset is probably low-ish considering the wide fenders found on the GR Yaris.

It would take more than a better torque curve to run with that mustang lol

Well it may be getting close cause they wouldn’t bother to benchmark against it if it wasn’t close.

On PS4s the 86 will murder the stang in the corners. The following is speculation but I bet with a 30 lbf*ft bump it gets reeeaaaal close.

How are people seeing a Hyundai..? Folks love to be design critics on the interwebz when they can't even dress themselves properly...it IS pretty much the same exact profile and hard points as the 86 only with smoother fenders, a sharper grill, more angular headlights/brake lights and slightly different lines. How do those changes turn the sleek and sharp looking twins into a fat Genesis Coupe or a frumpy FWD Tiburon? The new design looks very fresh and still very clean.

Don't think anyone mentioned this yet, but it appears the GR86 will now have a separate piece for the side skirt unlike the ones we have which are molded into the quarter panel. Pretty happy about this because I've always hated how the side skirts for the twins are merely stuck on the outside and make the lower half of the car look bulkier..

People get hung up on details in the design. The headlight shape is vaguely reminiscent of the late tiburon headlights, I can see that. But i agree that the proportions are 100% GT86.

Maybe it's the camo playing tricks on the eye, but it looks like the whole beltline moved up a bit. That would explain how it is now flush with the top of the fender.

The 4cyl stang weighs 3600ish lbs and is a low to mid 5 sec car. While I bet the stang is still faster the gap will have closed materially with the power increase give the almost 800lb weight difference. I would bet the new car is a mid to high 5 sec 0-60 now so keeping up on a track won’t be difficult.

Agreed. This platform often sees major customizations and wide body treatments that I don't really see the point in getting too hung up on the design either. It is entirely possible the gen 2 will subjectively be ugly, even with the proportions, but I doubt it. I might consider a gen 2 for a future car, but I am happy for now.

This is crude, but I tried to find an FRS picture close to the angle in the spy shot.

It's probably a little hard to see, but the green lines are the FRS and the red are the prototype. The spy shots are a bit more top down. But I lined up the wheels the best that I could and to me the window line looks the same. Everything looks the same, actually. Fender height, roof, rear of trunk, door handle placement.

If anything, the rear might be a little shorter while the front is longer. However, as mentioned, the perspective is slightly different.

If someone else wants a go, here are the two images I used.

Those brakes don't look fundamentally that different from the ones on the current car.

Which lends credence to information suggesting the platform is staying NA.

I think the FRS image is slightly elongated in the combined picture. The development car is turning left, which pushes the front right wheel center forward a bit due to it being offset from the strut.

It's definitely the camo since on the GR, it covers the lower window trim. As an aside, does anyone know what is the purpose of the white squares on the front and rear quarters?
