RICE: Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement
A Lexus badge is not rice, an F-Sport badge would be. Anyway, I hope it'll be a Toyota, so that we'll have options. Then again, Scions have better residual value (because of the lack of options). So there's that. Celica badge would be a bonus (nostalgia), but ultimately, who cares? |

Not to mention the use of "el-cheapo coilovers" being, most likely, a bad choice. A night and day difference implies that "night" is the origin. If they made it more "day" to begin with, you wouldn't have to spend cash on springs in the first place, eh?

Oh, and back on topic, if there's a scion version, I'm kinda wondering if they'd call it the fT or the aE..
I might just debadge it completely, though.. regardless of who ends up selling it. That rear end looks like it'd look just fine without letters or cowboy hats. |

Hahaha, I think I've said this once before, so I'll say it again.
Anyone who will or will not be buying this car based completely on what brand its given, you have to wonder about their reasons for buying the car in the first place. This car, just the car (be it a Toyota or Scion) is going to be a great piece of engineering work. Light weight, RWD, Compact, fair HP, low price, etc. THAT is why you should buy this car. Because there's no other car out there like it (Save the Miata, but its a Roadster, not a hardtop coupe. Its also a 2 seater, with a fairly cramped interior.) If being badged a Scion is enough to make you NOT want this car then there's nothing really to do but laugh at you. Scion, Toyota, even Lexus...I could care less about the brand or badge when it comes time to buy the car. I just want the damn car. End of story. Do I want it to be a Scion? Of course not. I want TOYOTA to revive its racing roots. Certainly I'm aware that Scion and Toyota are one and the same, however, that doesn't change the fact that TOYOTA needs a sporty car in the U.S., especially for us old school Toyota fanatics. If its badged as a Scion, will I still buy it? Of fucking course. |

I think most of us agree with that... BUT... if it comes in several versions (as Motor Trend hinted at) such as Subaru, Toyota, and Scion... and IF those were all RWD... I'd be predisposed to buy them in this order:
1) Subaru (sportier image, probably more power offered) 2) Toyota (bland image) 3) Scion (cheap shit & weird image) |

![]() None the less, it probably be one of the dumbest marketing ideas ever to badge it Scion instead of Toyota. Quote:

Toyota's (rather, Scion's) motivations and decision making might also be affected by the fact that a good majority of Scion buyers aren't actually in the "young adult" bracket, rather, middle-aged with steady incomes. ![]() Its just an objective approach. When it comes to trying to figure out what Toyota will do with this car, ya gotta take off your enthusiast cap and put on your business-man suit....cap. Still, it'll be hard for them to pass off the "high performance" model, which will probably reach upwards of $27k, as a Scion. |
