I always enjoy the stories where people develop mind reading abilities to make the circumstances fit what they think happened.
"He thought I was a Porsche"
"He thought he heard a blow off valve in my car"
"He knew I had an auto so launched"

Odds are that 90% of these stories are just people applying their imagination to a situation and believing that since that is what they would have thought/done then that applies to the other guy. Can't simply be a guy in a 'Vette launching (they have ben know to do that) there must be more to the story that somehow revolved around me. Same applies to fly bys. The dude was obviously already moving in order to come up behind you at speed so why would people think they were challenging them when they flash by? Hell, they probably didn't even know you were there.

I think florid imaginations and often flat out revisionism go a long way in "street racing" stories.

Not sure if it's the fact I've just spent more time driving for no reason other than for funsies, more attention to others around me, or just local idiots coincidentally being more idiotic of late but more than a few times at lights and such people are doing burnouts. I haven't so much as looked over but even this F350 duelly left some tread right beside the car. I'm still in break in period so it's not like I'm leaving the light very fast lol!

The duelly, a vette 2 lanes over and 2 cars back, what appeared to be a soccer mom in a crossover of some sort, and a guy rubbernecking long enough to get a horn tap because he didn't move at the light change all left a bit of rubber.

They probably thought I was in a Delorean, because 88 miles per hour is my top speed right now. (just at 4k in 6th gear is close to 84 I think)

Just had silver 03 civic coupe last night with hood spray painted black trying to provoke me into racing. Don't know why he'd do that in an area where cops are already aware of frequent speeding/racing incidents...

There was a guy in a King Air (twin engine turboprop) that was talking mad shit about how awesome they are. I was in a single engine turboprop and departed after him but he did a fast (slower airspeed) climb. I did a shallow (higher airspeed) climb to a higher altitude which took me longer time to get to altitude but I was catching up to him and then I had a higher true airspeed up in thinner air. I also started a shallow decent before him so after passing above I then started picking up speed in the decent before he even started his decent. I landed like 5 minutes before him too because he ended up being like number 3 to the field because a little Cessna 410 snuck in behind me. I was dying laughing. I saw him in the pilot's lounge and I was like "I thought you said that King Air was FAST man!?" He got all pissy and said I was so close to him he could see my taillight (white position light was out). That wasn't true I cloud see on my traffic information system I was never even within 2 miles of him at the same altitude. Also my light was fine. Sore loser. He never talked shit again though. (To be fair though he was in an old little King Air 90 a newer bigger one would be more of a challenge).

Well technically we "export" many!

All Civic coupes in North America made since 1986 are made in Canada and since they are one of the most popular fly by vehicles we take the lead.

Made in Canada as of 2015 (Camaro is not anymore)

Another example of how this globalization works is the Honda Goldwing. I lot of people don't realize that the Goldwing was a US designed and built bike for the global market between 1975 and 2010. Over 600,000 of them were built.

Then around 2008 or so Honda decided it needed to devote it's Marysville, OH plant to cars, built a stock of 2010 bike to carry them through the 2011 model year, shuttered the plant, moved all the equipment to Japan (Kikuchi if I remember correctly) and started building them there for the 2012 model year and forward. Same bikes (with a couple of cosmetic changes) same equipment but now a "Japanese import".

A lot of people I talk to who are dead set against buying anything that's not 'murican are shocked and appalled to find out that the 2 most 'murican cars on the road are Japanese and Korean. And the "American musclecar" FCA POS they drive is made in Canada from mostly Asian parts owned by an Italian conglomerate. There are some cars made in the US, but the more flags you see in a commercial, the more you have to dig and find out how American their 'murican car is.....

In short, there's a lot of dopes out there who believe car commercials.

Actually there are not that many "Asian"" parts in the car that you indirectly referenced. The vast majority of the parts used are Canadian, American or Mexican made with a few German ones thrown in for good measure.

That is a far cry from what you said.
Much of the electronics in the car in question are ZF parts and come from Eastern European countries. There are of course the usual mix of parts that come from China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan as well though but that applies to every single car made around the world.
