A few random thoughts:

1) The car looks far better in person than it does in pictures. The car I drove was red and red looks amazing on it. They had a white Genesis Coupe at the dealership as well (which was the color I thought I might want to buy if I go that route), but the red looked better to me at least.

2) Performance wise, it was no slouch. The car only had 20 miles on it when I left the lot, and because of this, I didn't want to over rev the car, but I did run up to the 5000-6000 rpm range. Jumping onto the interstate on ramp, I got up to 100 mph as I merged and it got there really quickly. Seems as fast in a straight line as my NSX.

3) Handling and stopping was great, as one might imagine with a Track model with Brembo brakes, 19" wheels and 140 treadwear Bridgestone RE050 tires. Those tires will sure cost some big $$$ to replace (in probably less than 8000 miles).

4) The interior was very nice...far nicer than the interior in the BRZ I looked at (through the window) last week (at the stupid dealership who invited me to test drive it and wouldn't even let me sit in the car and wouldn't even open the door for me to look in).

Overall, the Genesis Coupe is a pretty darn good car. The car I drove did sticker for $34k, so if I happen to choose this car over the BRZ, I'd most likely go with a 2.0T R-Spec which still has the 19" wheels and Brembo brakes, but only cost about $27k.

And this is coming from a guy with great taste in cars IMHO.

Very true. I chose to highlight the same things Inside Line did. At the end of the day (cliche alert), I think it boils down to the weight difference and the (apparently) superior control of the BRZ/FR-S.

From a pure driver's enjoyment standpoint, I tend to skew towards control v. power.

Oh please, it's hilarious. If that offends anyone on an automobile enthusiast forum, they need to get the sand out of their vagina.

Can we create a new thread to do the same thing for all the "I can't believe the price is not 22K" posts, so the rest of us can ignore the thread?

WTF?! This is still going???

I just don't understand why, we as enthusiasts, have to put another car down to put ours up? The cars will do what the cars will do. Everything else is purely subjective. I guess it's an insecurity thing...

In either case, I plan to drive the hell outta the BRZ and, if chance permits, I'll trade cars with a GC owner and try to drive the hell outta that car too. After all I'm in this for the cars. If it were for anything else, I'd be in the Trekkies forum.

Main source of outcry isn't the GenCoupe, it was the 7 threads about it that popped up in different parts of the forum when we have a decent long-term thread in the right place.

There are members such as myself, that while leaning to the FR-S will not pull the trigger until both have been personally driven. So we compare and contrast in the meantime...

If I understand correctly, springs can only resist so much transfer. When under lateral acceleration, you have weight transfer due to the "torque" acting on the car around the center of mass (which creates body roll) and then you have weight transfer due to body roll itself, which actually moves the center of mass outward. Stiffer springs resist the movement of the center of mass outward, but I imagine the more important role they play is to resist unfavorable camber changes which kill grip more...not sure on this though.

With a lower center of gravity, you experience less "torque" on the body because the angle at which the force acts is smaller. Since the center of mass is closer to the ground at any given angle of body roll it's moving a smaller distance horizontally as well, and you should be able to use softer springs because they don't need to counter as great of a force for the same weight.

chulooz, I think the decision to not put "performance" designated tires was perhaps a combination of 2 factors...One being the (IMO silly, most car shoppers don't care about this) intention to make the car more driftable, and the other being that they wanted to emphasize the "practical" daily-driver side of the car, with low noise comfortable tires.

The volume on the subject also seems to point to the GC being the closest competitor to the FRS/BRZ in the minds of people very interested in the Toyobaru.

With one now available, and the other getting closer to being available, for test drives this thread will sail past the 2000 mark :-)

Completely understandable, but I think the BRZ will be the first car I will ever buy without a test drive.

I don't think I would buy anything that I can try out/on first with out giving it a go. I know there are certain things you can't try first but even then there is return policy for things like that.
