i wonder if there will ever be a vendor/tuner that people don't eventually end up turning against. kinda makes you wonder why there's such a distinct pattern... could we be doing it wrong? i think so...

I think there are a select few in this platform already. Common trait between them is they don't like remote tuning and are willing to spend LOTS of time with the car, not just set it and forget it.

I think there is no way to change this honestly. There will always be new platforms coming out, new people using said new platform with limited options and just needing to go with whatever is available.

Also, there will always be that time frame where taking advantage of customers will be extremely easy filled with willing buyers who don't know much what they are doing.

They also tend to have good reputation on other platforms for quite awhile.
None of this forum king crap in the form of a computer builder or a decade of fraudulent activities.

the thing to understand out of all this is that e-tuning doesn't work, and anyone who is trying to sell you one is necessarily sacrificing the quality of the work for the purpose of expanding their market. it simply can't be done as well as a real (in person) tune, certainly not without very, very tight communication, a lot of time, and a real installed (wired in and logged) wideband, which almost no one uses/requires or has time for.

i've never read a log from an e-tune that i'd run in my own car, and i've read lots. sadly, tuners get away with this the same way developers get away with writing shit software. it outwardly 'works' to the customer, they simply don't know enough to know it's completely fucked.

i'd suggest anyone interested in anything that requires tuning should take the time to learn to do it. hell at this point it's easier to read up and do it yourself than it is to find a reliable vendor (that will still be reliable 6 months from now). it's not rocket science, your car will run better, there's some pride associated with doing it right yourself, and most importantly you only need to learn once. if you're not willing to do that, it might just not be for you. that's where ots maps come in...

If you're new to car forums I can see how this would surprise you. If you've been around a few since the beginning, this is how it goes. A new platform is released and the snakes always come to market quick. They get in and get out while there is a lot of hype and little support. This is exactly why I would never purchase a first year car amongst other reasons.

In a couple of years if someone mentions Visconti or Toni, it will be like your grandpa telling you how he used to fill his gas tank for a quarter.

Link to the book? I'd love to learn it hahaha.

But I do love to have my car working 100% of the time and I'm affraid if I try to tune it myself... I'd blow the thing up.
