If any of you ruin the used market by getting an automatic I will come to your house and kill you.

Mellow out, Bro. Or at the very least use a smiley or two so that we know you're not going to turn all Hannibal Lecter on us.

We need to see how the early lock up will work. Say your in 3rd, just cruising and the torque converter is locked, then you gun it hard. Will the clutch unlock as soon as you gun it or will it stay locked to red line only unlocking to shift thus feeling ''connected'' like a manual. I have a 04 Solara V6 and the torque converter locks in 5th but only for mpg sake. Give it much gas and it will immediately de-couple. It could be much much smoother and is not sporty at all.

Depends which mode you have it in. D mode will make it work just like a regular automatic, so if you punch it it will drop down to a lower gear. If you're in M it will act like a manual, you have to manually select the gear.

Yeah but my question is, how long will the torque converter stay locked. Will it de-couple when you gun it or will it hold through the pull only unlocking to change gears. Never mind.

I guess we will only know when we've actually driven one. Best bet is to look on the IS-F forums and see if they have any videos cruising/punching it on the highway.

I live in the same geographical area, and there is no way I'd consider an automatic for this car.

I would be your first student if you weren't so far from me, but if I ever get it in manual you'll be to teach me how to drive manual over the Internet. Not sure how that's gonna work though lol.

Oh and I have a favor to ask you guys. When you are test driving the FR-S can you try both the auto and manual, and try to give an unbiased review? It would be much appericiated cause where I live there's like tons of hills, and careless drivers everywhere, and I don't really want to risk learning to drive a manual in this kind of environment unless it's absolutely necessary. I had trouble starting an automatic on a hill, so that's gotta tell you how rusty I am, plus I'm not sure if I remember how to park anymore lol.

No such thing as unbiased, that's my biased opinion.

The performance difference between the manual and the paddle shift auto, and how good the manual is compared to the likes of the Miata would determine, at least for me, whether I want to bother with a clutch or not.

If the gearbox is lie the one from the IS-F, as has been stated before, then I would expect it to stay locked. I know the gearbox in the IS-F is one of the best TC auto's ever released in a production car - fastest shifts, amazing feel, etc. So I wouldn't expect any less if it's the same one in the '86

I'm in Somerset county, but I can't stand manuals in traffic. I tend to get better mileage on autos too, so I feel my decision has been made.
