I have 3 children; 2 boys and a girl. Both boys were in the Army. Ranger, Iraq, and Afghanistan and all that. The girl wanted to sign up. I told her NO! The men in this family will do the fighting! However, my daughter is strong and tough and if she would ever get into a physical fight with either of the boys ...... I'd have to wager on her winning ..... Just yesterday, my oldest granddaughter went shopping with me. When we were unloading the car, she insisted on carrying a 30 pound bag of cat food from the back of the car to the front of the garage. She actually picked it up off the floor and carried it for 20' ........ she weighs about 55 pounds. humfrz |

The usefulness of a soldier goes far beyond the ability to carry shit. A bullet doesn't care if you're male or female, nor does a trigger. Certainly the recoil of 5.56 isn't going to be a problem for anybody but the slightest person. That stuff doesn't kick like a 12-gauge slug. You can give the big guns to those strong enough, male or female. I know it's a bit more complicated than this, but in the end, these things are what really matter.

Sometimes it is. And it's the "sometimes" that are most important. I'm not seeing why everyone seems to want to pick away at my point here. I already specified some women can do the job and some men can't. Most of the time it doesn't matter. But the truth is women CANNOT be as strong as a similarly trained man. Testosterone and genetics determine how strong you can get and 99.999% of women are absolutely incapable of matching a man physically. I know everyone wants to have that story that defies the norm: your daughter carried 70% of her body weight, you know someone who's better than the men in the squad etc... But we aren't talking about exceptions. Look at women's weight lifting. They may be the strongest in the world. Stronger than me or you. But they are still weaker than male lifters.

I think what they are trying to say is that not a lot of situations in the military are actually calling for physical strength all the time and plenty of other qualities are just as important. Again I've never served but I have to think that a lot of the "Last guy in the squad carrying all of his hurt buddies" isn't happening nearly as much as hollywood wants you to believe.
