"secure" as to not fall off, maybe.
But as vents are not meant to have something heavy mounted on, being flimsy by design/themselves, vent mounts imho are rather ratlish way i wouldn't want to use. |

But I found this phone case company, Pitaka, where the metal pieces are actually built into the case. This holds really well on canyon drives, maybe not the best for track though.

I have a two-piece dash trim, so I use the Beatsonic QBF13 mount and QBA17 phone holder.
I ordered a cut-to-size piece of acrylic, stuck a Scosche Mount to it, and have the phone holder grip it. Now it's the best of both worlds, and I can switch between whatever holding method I want at the moment. |

On my BRZ I've wedged it in the corner and the mount is resting on the bottom of the vent instead of just hanging off the fins. It's pretty sturdy up & down and side to side. But generally I hate sacrificing a vent just to mount a phone. Especially in cars were you can't shut the vent, resulting in your phone getting blasted by heat in the winter. |

The Magicmount pro extendo is pretty great. I have it stuck on the flatter portion of the dash and because you can have the arms come downward and towards you, it does not obscure any windshield visibility. Will take pictures tomorrow. The pro series has stronger magnets too and is able to hold my Note 10+ in place even under harder braking and quick accelerations/jerky turns. Will attach a picture tomorrow

I've used this one attached to top left vent above the radio, been in the car for 6 months and hasn't dropped my Nexus 2XL even once. Looks ok, and i have my phone on it everytime I'm in the car (running Waze & JBV1) so it really doesn't matter.
