Could you post pics? I'm interested in pursuing this solution for mine.

BTW, mine has been replaced by dealer under warranty once already; and so far so good...I'm not sure if I got an "updated" adapter or not. But I'm keeping my eye on it and if this is an issue again, I may try your solution.

Here is the mirror attached. It actually fits better without the adapter. The plastic chase for the wire snaps in. The mettal piece needs to be glued with mirror glue. Some of them come with double sided adhesive tape. Don't use the tape.

So my mirror came loose again last night...it hasn't fallen, but there is a 2-3 cm gap now between the base and the windshield and a lot of play in the mirror.

While I am quite frustrated, I'm not really surprised. Have an appointment tomorrow morning with the dealership to fix for the second time.

Make sure they fit the updated adaptor: same part number except for a 1 at the end in place of the 0. Make them check the part number on the box. This also should be a Subaru warranty claim.

Updated adaptor cures the problem completely.

Can't believe there hasn't been a recall on this issue?

Happened to me... I took the car back to the dealer and they replaced the mounting bracket with a supposedly more reliable one. Apparently this is pretty common.

My mirror was vibrating and getting really annoying so I brought my car to the dealer and they said the mounting bracket had been redesigned and replaced it under warranty.

Recalls are generally only issued when there is a significant safety defect. It's a known issue, there is a TSB with updated parts, and all our cars are still under warranty. No real reason to issue a recall, yet.

Count me as another victim of this issue. The mirror came off when I was adjusting it today.

I've already ordered a replacement (and updated) adapter, but in temporarily putting the existing one back in place, I lost one of the two black screws that screw the adapter to the backing plate (or whatever it's called).

I'm assuming part number H501SSA041 comes with replacement screws as well?

It comes with replacement phillips screws. It does not include the torx screw for the mirror itself.
