He responded to me by email. I would avoid going through the forums and just getting his actual email through his website.

Bit the Bullet

So I bought a Rydeen Duo for a hundred bucks and here's my install minus running the wire to the front, look at my build thread for photos on how to do that if you have questions:

Take off the trunk liner, then starting at the left inside:

The right inside:

The outside, press up in the light opening to easily pop out the single pop holding it in:

I've dealt with professorial security camera's for over 15 years, professionally and as a hobby. There are a few things I can tell you about these kinds of camera's.

1. All manufacturers lie.
2. None of them are great except high end Panasonic/Sanyo's.
3. Night Vision, isn't, unless there are IR LED's, otherwise it's just low lux (hopefully.)

No camera this size will have great night video. Even with IR LED's, it will still look pretty crappy, you'll just see crap farther out.

As a $100 camera, this one isn't bad, I don't think it's anywhere near 4 times the quality of the cheapo $20-25 Chinese ones, build quality will be the dictating factor there, hopefully. I took a plunge with this camera, we'll see how it holds up.

If you get one with IR LED's, be prepared for it to be washed out with the backup lights from the car. It will also be larger. Filters aren't a high priority for these low cost camera's and nothing but high quality filters can prevent IR burnout on such a small image censor.

Black and White camera's will always do better with low light than color, haven't seen a BW backup camera though.

It is a CMOS sensor, they are inferior to CCD for light capture at low light level. IR is also a stronger point for CCD.

CMOS is cheap, low power, and cheap. They are only better at lower levels of noise and the digital processing that can be done on them.

For a car backup camera, CMOS is plenty fine as a rule. They don't need to be great at low light since cars have backup lights, they have more than adequate sensors for daytime use. They are not meant to be "HD" or anything like that, they would cost $400-$thousands to accomplish that.

Setting expectations for these things is hard, everyone these days wants a pristine image, both night and day. That's not going to happen. Finding a high enough quality camera to live with is the best you can do. Daytime image on this is pretty good, better than a lot of the cheapo one's I've seen on YouTube at least.

Nice write up. You can push the Duo cable though the first grommet without poking a hole.

I did another slit so the cables won't chafe in the grommet. And it keeps them slightly separated for entry and exit.

I did again, third time now. Did you use his gmail address? That's what I've been using, which is the same address I used to purchase the original harness last year.

Same here. Though to be fair, I sent my email on Friday. I'm wondering if perhaps I'm just unlucky due to the gmail spam filter.

Yep I used his gmail address.
It did take a few days for him to respond but he was on point in shipping it out.

Weird. I emailed him right after he posted on here about the power lead on the 29th of January, then again on the 12th of Feb, and now once more today. Maybe I'm in his Spam filter...

EDIT: Got a response from him - looks like he was swamped.
