I agree with your point. It is all a gradual process as the manufacturers find better and detailed ways to produce the same product. I am very open to seeing another company that can produce what you are saying below using two sheets of high quality titanium. It is again, appearance or durability and Greddy has done good on appearance, now let's wait for the one who can do both.

As it is, the less than perfect welding seems to coincide w/ the bubble blisters ghosted in the heat treated finish on the edges and some stories about leaking gaskets. I think it's a great product but some people like myself would like to see a little more attention to detail at a certain price point. I don't have a problem with the process, I have a problem w/ the semi-DIY finish/craftsmanship which is more than evident on the Ti tips on inspection.

Modified Mag did a write up of it. The gain seems a bit low, however the gain is throughout the entire RPM. And of course every dyno reads differently depending on environmental conditions and temperature. hope this helps!

It is more than likely some form of shift cut that allows you to do full throttle shifting. It just takes some of the force off of the transmission and allows the gears to shift.

The most common type of shift cut is an ignition cut where the ECU removes some ignition timing to cut engine power. A lot of times fuel doesn't get cut so good amount of raw fuel will pass through into the exhaust.

The pop is probably the raw fuel burning in the exhaust system. It doesn't damage the exhaust at all but like you said the sound is fantastic.

Hope that helps!

Looking for some opinions here. I really love the sound of this exhaust but I've been told that it will be too loud for a DD and I would experience a lot of droning on the highway. However, when listening to the sound clips, it sounds like the resonated system doesn't sound much louder than stock and the non-resonated sounds exactly like what I want.

Its really hard to tell through the sound clips online but I want an exhaust that is definitely louder than stock but with no drone at all. So is the resonated system what I want or the non-resonated?

I have the 2nd catback resonated, EU approved version which is almost a quarantee it would not be obnoxious or droning. Good. But at the same time apprehensive like you that I wouldn't hear the difference inside, kinda the point of this exercise.

The fist week I had it it was surprised at its heavy bassy voice and how loud and droning it was on full throttle even in low revs. I truly wondered how this got approved, but after a few days driving it started becoming quieter. Now a few weeks later, I can always hear the nice low rumble of the exhaust above the noises of the engine/intake at low revs without being loud, perfect for DD and much nicer than stock where basically the exhaust was not heard and the slightly thrashy engine was heard predominantly. At middle revs and full throttle it snarls nicely, and at high revs now the exhaust and intake/soundtube complement eachother nicely in concert.
Basically what a sportscar should sound like from factory.

PS: cold start is still pretty loud, a car standing next to me in an underground garage had its alarm go off when I started up mine...

No drone at all with the secondary unresonated. Sounds like sex on wheels at cold start then quiets down a bit after a few minutes. Nice rasp at load.

I've got the resonated catback. It's not much louder than stock at all IMHO, but has a little bit deeper, bass-ier, more rumbly sound to it. The system is a little louder than stock, but the increase in volume seems to be greater inside the cabin than it is at the tailpipe, which I actually like for a DD since I can drive it around at night without feeling like a total asshole.

I'd grab some sound clips of mine if I had any kind of decent mic setup to work with. I don't think cellphone video will give you a good idea of what it sounds like.

Mann's video comparing the stock vs Milltek resonated system is pretty accurate:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg80fpI_fFE"]Milltek Sport Resonated Catback System for 2013 Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S - YouTube[/ame]

The resonated system (really, both systems, since the guys at Mann said the non-resonated one is only a couple of db louder than the resonated) really isn't much louder than stock, but the sounds it makes are nicer. Insert, "this is how it should have come from the factory" cliche here-- you're not going to install this system and find out that your car suddenly sounds like a straight-piped STI. It's really pretty reserved. I really didn't want an overly-loud exhaust since my BRZ is my DD and I don't like to feel like an asshole driving around at night etc, but even I sometimes wonder if I should have gotten the non-resonated version. The resonated is pretty subtle: it sounds better than stock, not louder.

I have the secondary catback from Milltek (non-res) with the Motive concept test pipe (no cat and no resonator) and I tend to set off car alarms when I'm in a garage. Drone is present above 4k but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm in love with this exhaust, don't know anyone who has complained.

Great thread. Just picked up my FR-S. This will definitely be the exhaust I go with in the summer.
