That's not the topic. But I want the Subaru one, you take Toyota. Meet me at the rendezvous.

An alignment will not be able to counter the changes to suspension geometry from an increase in track.

I'd rather they fully sort out the geometry and use the offset that is best for that. It's easier for people that don't care about performance to change the car to make it look the way they want, than for me to change the geometry to make the car drive better. (Though I might just be selfish; I don't care about how the car looks.)

Yes, I know it can't fully account for the changes due to putting spacers on the wheels....which is why I am really disappointed that the vehicle is being tested with the wheel/tire package looking the way it does. It means there's not going to be any easy fix to make the thing look good stance wise without slightly compromising the handling.

One thing that might work is simply putting a slightly wider wheel/tire package on it. If the vehicle is running any negative camber at all, dynamics would not be appreciably affected so long as the portion of the tire that bears the most weight (the inside) begins at the same point. The outside portion of the tire, which would stick out more, really only comes into play when cornering hard, which is fine by me. Since the vehicle is apparently not running a staggered set-up, tire rotation can easily fix any tire wear issues that may arise.

The issue then becomes increased tendency to follow grooves in the road. My '95 Cobra did this and it was annoying and given a particularly bad rut on the highway due to truck traffic, dangerous.

lol ....

skill with the car can overcome disabilities you plan to put onto the car through messed up geometry and wider stance, etc.
So do what you will with the car....

as i believe Driver > Car ....

For whatever reason many of today's "sporty" cars (yes, stopping short of calling this a sports car for now) have this issue. Even my 350Z has a terrible stock offset. I have no idea why manufacturers do this. It doesn't really matter to me because I imagine that'll be one of the first things I swap out once I get it home, but it's frustrating to see all of the time and care going into the car's design just to see it come out with a set of 8" wide wheels tucked 2" deep into the wheel wells.

I affectionately refer to the disease of too-high offset wheels jammed deep within the wheel-well as "Mustang Tuck".

God I know!

Did you read my recent posts in this thread, where I talked about the issues I had with my '95 cobra?

I offset the wheels for that very reason! The SN95 Mustang was notorious for this. It's because it was still based on the Foxbody platform of the previous-gen mustang, which was a significantly smaller vehicle. The car couldn't be given good handling manners with a wider wheelbase because the suspension mount points made optimising the geometry for a larger car impossible without tucking the wheels in an inch or two.

I will say, though, that my '95 Cobra handled like it was on rails. Apart from steering wheel feel, it really handled quite a bit better than my '10 GTI. The only bad trait in stock form was the excessive brake dive, which was also caused by the suspension geometry.

I still consider the FT-86 a proper sports car .

This discussion is going in a much better direction that it was earlier . Sorry for raging in the thread guys .

I may too, once we know the engine specs, weight, tranny, etc and some more detailed specs. This thing can end up being a great entry-level sports car or an overweight underpowered dud. Hoping for the former, of course.
