Perhaps they'll use the same boot liner and just flip it over.

CONSIDER THIS - Toyota is struggling to keep up with demand of this popular vehicle. Pressure is on the manufacturing process including Toyota's Suppliers.

Lets say the company that supplies the wheels has a maximum capacity of 500,000 wheels a year. At 5 Alloys per car - 100,000 cars which is Toyota's current capacity. This may be the only thing stopping them from increasing production.

Toyota decides that instead of supplying 5 Alloys per car - Lets supply four. All of a sudden the Wheel manufacturers 500,000 wheels can supply 125,000 vehicles so toyota can increase production by 25000 cars a year.

Is it starting to sound a little better now???

The equally likely theory is that they source the wheels from the same supplier that produces other rims for Subaru/Toyota. In that case, they would have already requested that manufacturer to shift production volumes to the 86 rims in place of other models in lesser demand.

Either way, a very faint silver lining around a very dark cloud.

You guys are forgetting that Toyota don't build this car, Subaru do.

If it wasn't about cost cutting and increased margins, they would have deleted the spare and reduced the price.

Does anyone know for a fact that the tyre repair kit is cheaper than the alloy?

At RRP I'd imagine it would be significantly cheaper.

At production per unit prices, it's anyone's guess.

I had considered posting exactly that, but most people would rather just have their hand out. Take it to current affairs shows, give it to the media, do whatever you want. Cancel your order even. That way maybe someone else who will enjoy the car doesn't have to wait as long. I really an sick if the reaction from people now. You have your options. Cancel, suck it up or buy a spare.

Here's an example of how Toyota don't care about the customer. Since this story broke, I have sent 2 emails to Toyota directly and received no reply. I have also been trading emails with the dealer and got a reply yesterday that said in part "I feel that is best for all parties for us to return your deposit, ..... not only with the wait, spare tyre and now the brand and that’s the last thing we want!!"
I previously discussed delivery dates and have not questioned this in recent emails. I have questioned the attitude Toyota appear to be taking towards new customers as well as the spare wheel issue, and it seems as I have had the temerity to query these things, they want to cancel the order. Toyota clearly don't seem to care about this customer at least, so I may not end up getting one at all, and as I told them in response, will then blacklist Toyota for life. I have advised I wish to continue with the order even without the spare, which they probably knew, but I will find out when I check emails tonight whether they are prepared to keep the order in place. As the wording of their email suggests, they are not asking if I want my deposit back, they just no longer want me as a customer because I dared query something that has made many people unhappy.

You are taking this too personally. It's a transaction. The dealer doesn't "care" about you, that's the role of your family and friends. This is a business transaction and telling them you'll blacklist Toyota does not advance your position, it just makes them wish you'd go away. The salesman wants to move onto an easy deal and let you go. Hell, by the time you're in the market for another car, he'll probably be selling real estate.

Work out what you want and what you're willing to compromise to get it. If you want out, at least they appear to trying to get rid of you too, which makes things easy. If you want a BRZ, buy one knowing it now comes without a spare and deal with it. By all means try to get some compensation, but if your position is that you'll walk away if you don't get any, then just walk away with the knowledge that no-ones "cares" ... because they don't.

I don't even know which Toyota dealership my BRZ is being sold through ... and I couldn't care less.

so what about the people who already got their cars.. do they have spare wheels and boot mats?

i ask because i was promised an august delivery car that would have already had the spare wheel etc, and since i got stuffed around i accepted a later delivery date. so i expect a car the same spec as an august delivery car. i will be asking my dealer for the bootmat and spare wheel when i take delivery of the car.

I think TMCA is removing the bootmat for the full spare altogether so I doubt your dealer would be able to order one in for you (even at an additional cost). They should be able to get you a full spare but it sure as hell ain't coming out of the dealers pockets.
