Darn. Now I really want to find people with the new fuel pump and see if they have crickets.

I want the front bumper for the BRZ, with foglights, and the new fuel pump if it is cricket free, lol.

Moto San's impression of the 2017 BRZ. He said in the interview that the 5HP bump is more like 15-20HP, because the 2017 models are more accurately measured compared to the previous models. Can anyone validate this?

I have been following the rework pretty closely and there is no validation at this time. I will say if it comes from Moto, I tend to believe that as fact.

Hmmm... With all the LED bulbs, I wonder if the 17s can swap headlamps or taillights with other gens

Probably - the only thing that might need changed would be the flasher, like when upgrading to LED turn signals on current cars as long as the connectors are the same.

The dyno charts provided seem to say otherwise.

It was my understanding that the 15-20 is WHP. If the early models get 155-165 at the wheels currently, that number will now be 175-185 for MY17. Actually power being put down will be much closer to the catalog horsepower.

Now that you mention it the dyno chart that was provided was an engine dyno so this would make sense.

The only thing that was changed outside of the engine was the final gear. Would this affect the WHP numbers by 15-20?

This is my question. There are a lot of efficiency improvements to the engine itself, but that alone doesn't increase the WHP ratio in relation to the engine.

Sorry, I don’t see it. How do you gain 20 WHP just by hardening a few gear teeth and changing the final drive ratio?

To make what essentially computes to a 10% gain you’d have to decrease the number of friction points and greatly reduce the friction at all remaining points. Not to mention overcoming inertial loss, drag, windage, pumping and heat.

I say either, much more has been changed in the driveline than so far released or that 20 WHP figure is just pre sales hype.
