Well I got a few things done today. I made a heat shield for the exhaust. The good news, heat is not being trapped in the empty cavity were the muffler would be so the large portion of the bumper that was getting hot is no longer hot. Bad news, a very specific part of the bumper is now REALLY hot. I won't post a pic of the heat shield because...well it's not very pretty :/ but that's okay! I'm not giving up on it yet! I will continue to work on through the night until I'm satisfied.

The other thing I did today was remove the intake sound generator thing.

I have heard you actually loose power removing the sound delete..... But looks good. Let us know about your progress on the heat shield!

Just wondering why everyone is so big on muffler deletes? Nothing against them but everything I read says a loss of low range torque my exhaust gave me more low range torque and more power and It's only really loud when I want it to be with no drone. Is it just because of the price with the average muffler delete under $100 and a good axle back starting at $550? And for people worried about heat I don't think this little engine would be able to generate the enough heat to melt a bumper maybe any exposed wires or over heat break and fuel lines that are close to it.

Cause some people dont wanna spend about 800 to about a grand for a exhaust that actually doesnt sound as good as doing a simple muffler delete.... And from what i have read, there really isnt any loss of low range torque. I have read a couple dynos of them doing with stock on and then with a muffler delete and the dyno never came up with any losses. There are some that have done a muffler delete properly and it actually makes the sound a boxer engine should. A easy mod that isnt much $ that makes you able to hear what the engine should is why it is sooo popular.

I'd be interested to see proof of this loss of low end anything by simply removing the factory muffler section. The stock cat is far more restrictive and has a greater effect on exhaust flow and pulse timing than the muffler ever will, unless the cat is removed. Doing a muffler delete is not going to make any noticeable power, but it does remove a lot of weight. Even a cat back exhaust (leaving the factory cat in place) only has a minor effect on performance, and most of the gains come from loss of weight. Only by replacing the entire exhaust system, headers included, with a pulse tuned system designed to maximize exhaust gas scavenging and properly time exhaust pulse vacuums will you see any real power and torque gains.

I'm trying to find the article I've seen that spells out the major objectives, and differences, in turbo exhaust systems and NA exhaust systems so I can link it here, because it does a better job of explaining it than I can from memory.

It is a two day event at Marana Regional Airport

Address is Marana Regional Airport, West Avra Valley Road, Marana, AZ

If you are coming to hang out, first car out should be about 9 am.

If you want some rides, hang out until TO runs. I am running my buddy's miata. I can take you for some rides, or I can hook you up with some other cars. The site is really first rate and we have really good course designers.

Here is an event info link.
