The real one doesn't sound like most people think it would.

The first one I saw firing was mounted on top of an M113 APC. When it "went off" it sounded like a "Vrooooooooooooooooom" plus 6,000 empty shell casings on top of the M113.

Even the tankers were impressed .....

First time I saw an A10 open up with one of those was at a demonstration at the Goose Bay base out east. Was 79 or 80 so the aircraft was pretty new and none of us had ever seen one before. He was flying so slow that each burst of the gun almost made the aircraft come to a dead stop in the sky. It was awesome!
Surprised that the thing didn't push the M113 right backwards.

The A10 has a 30mm cannon normally loaded with depleted uranium shells. If mounted to an APC, it might actually tear the roof off. Firing the cannon is more powerful than both engines at full throttle.

Funny thing about the A10, the gun came first. It's not a plane with a big gun, it's a big gun with wings.

I believe hum was talking about the 20mm antipersonnel variant.

Yep!

Realized after I wrote my piece that Hum was probably referring to the Vulcan minigun while I was thinking more the 30mm when I saw the one on the exhaust. I was sort of confused how it would ever work on a M113.

Yep, I was referring to the 20mm version. They mounted an M61 Vulcan on the hull of the M113 APC.

Least we not forget about "puff the magic dragon". An AC-47 (DC-3) with three M61 Vulcans (chambered for 7.62 mm rounds). All one side mounted.

I saw one fire at Ft Benning Ga ...... yep, the three guns could put out a total of 18,000 rounds per minute ..... now THAT was firepower (for the day).

Or up the ante to the AC130 with two Vulcans, a 40MM Bofors and a freakin 105 howitzer!

This is the gunship the video game crowd would know.

I think you have to put the lid down to have it work properly.

If you can get a cat that size in a toilet and close the lid without receiving a mortal injury in the proccess you are a better man than I!
