Oh, I have ethanol-free close...but its sold out of a couple yacht clubs. Pretty sure they wouldnt be happy if I wanted to fill my car up there. Also, its only 87-89 octane. Also, its over $4 a gallon. Yeah, I'll live with the crickets, thanks.

I had chirp from about 300 miles to 8000 miles.
It magically stopped at 8000 miles.
I'm at 9500 miles and still got no chirp.
My car is 100% stock except the tint.

I use either Shell or Chevron with ethanol.

#1. All Oct 90+ is over $4 at any gas station (at least here in Washington) that you would actually want to take your car for a fillup.

#2. Pure gas gives you about 10%-20% more MPG so the 5 to 10 cents more you pay per gallon equals out

#3. Ethanol is pretty effing bad for your car and evaporates very quickly so you end up getting even less MPG and more wear on your ride.

#4. The yacht club would most likely have no problem with you filling up a gas can and going that route. I've done that before in a pinch. The tank on the car is pretty small so maybe 2 1/2 fill ups on a 5 gallon gas can should do it.

The chirp isn't the only reason I use the pure gas. The car runs better, gets better MPG and honestly its much better for your entire system.

If you are going to nickle and dime your car you might as well just use Arco 85.

The only fix right now is running ethanol free gas.

I've been doing it for over 2 weeks now and ever since I have no chirp.
Yeah, can't get E0 around here.

I still think we should continue to gripe about this and bring it in for warranty, or the part will never be revised.

Well I've already had a video of it sent to corp and I've talked directly to corp about it.

They basically said "no more fuel pump replacements since its not going to fix it, we should have it worked out by the time the 2014 models come out."

So in a few months when the 2014 models are released we should see a part with a fix for this issue.

Until then Ethanol free is the only way to bandaid this issue.

Oh really? I'm yet to weasel a similar statement out of Subaru.

More of a case in point why those of us who have less-than-ideal access to E0 might as well just wait it out.

And yes, I did see your previous post. I filled up with 93 for $3.65/gal yesterday.

And as far as "nikel-and-diming," You're jumping to a conclusion--I'm also guessing you don't really think highly of those who have gotten the E85 tune. And while ethanol evaporates more easily, the closed system (unless you drive around with your gas cap off) of the fuel tank essentially negates loss of volume.

Keep preaching, I am sure the choir loves to hear it. I respect what you have contributed here so far, but I have no need to go out of my way just because of a noise.

Haven't been back here in awhile, but I feel I should because of what my experience has been so far. I've been exclusively using Shell for the past few months and to my amazement no chirps. I live in Cali so 91 is the best we get. I keep thinking it's going to come back just when I get comfortable but nothing. Loving it.

Yeah thus far Subaru has been a lot less vocal with customers over problems with the cars.

What gas you put in your car doesn't have any bearing as to what I think about anyone. You are lucky to have such cheap gas, just about any decent prem is over $4 around here. I pay 4.25 for my E0 92.

I was just offering some advice.

i was about to write such a comment since last week, since i don't seem to notice crickets any more for a while now.
seems to have gone away around the time i got my 7,500 mile oil change/ecm recall reprogram.
i did run a few tanks of shell gas before that whenever i could (my usual is chevron), but i've been back to chevron the last couple fill ups.

so not sure what made mine stop also after 7,500~8,000 miles.
maybe the crickets get tired of chirping after 8,000 miles and go home.
or maybe the chirping washer or whatever has worn off the offending area so now moves more freely??
