If the water pools in there, then it means foul odour can enter the car, or when the boot/trunk gets hot, the water will evaporate and potentially cause other damage.

As mentioned, that pic was after 60km of driving, literally the morning after I bought the car, we pulled the suspension out. You can only imagine after a month of driving in the rain, how much moisture can get in there.
And yet the BC mounts have no seal at all....so they will let even more water up there...

Can someone measure the diameter of the hole? In mm, I'm trying to match the plug up...the D40 plug shows in the Subaru lookup....but it isn't anywhere near those holes....

I can later. Or you can when I bring the car in for an oil change

Probably the best thing to do would be to get some gasket material, and cut it to fit the top strut mounts. That would stop the water from getting in.

I understand these plugs are not part of PDI. Are these installed from the factory or is everyone missing these plugs on their cars because they are not installed from the factory and people are just adding these afterwards just because a part like this exists?

Just checked today, and I don't have these plugs on top of the strut mounts.

Because I am reeeeeeaally curious as if these are suppose to be factory installed (in Canada?) or if they're important enough to be ordered...considering the roads will be salted here...

Just went out to the garage to measure. They are roughly 1.5 inches, which is 38mm. D40 would be a tight fit but would work. I imagine the dealer had them on hand and used them as a best option if the diagram isn't showing anything there.

I've ordered a couple D40 plugs from the local Subaru dealer but that was two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything yet.

I ordered these yesterday. Parts guy knew of no recall or TSB. Only $5 but this bothers me that it wasn't installed at the factory, especially since they can be ordered. During wet weather the trunk area could be a mess.
Many thanks to whataboutbob for part numbers.

Got a call back from dealer, seems they are back ordered for a month. Sounds like maybe lots of people ordering them.

Just called Subaru and the damned Parts guy kept saying "if it didn't come with the car then I won't have a listing for it"

He didn't even bother to look it up.

Does anyone have the Subaru parts number for that strut mount grommet?

The Toyota part number is a few posts above this. Alternatively, just ask the parts guy for a "Plug D40". That's how the Subaru dealer and myself found it in the system.
