We also had a large family gathering at christmas with several young kids and babies. I'll admit I was a bit nervous... but all the kids have dogs at home and know how to gently touch and not grab. After she got her initial "hello barks" out of the way, she was getting her nose, mouth, tail, and paws touched by the kids and was completely fine. |

wow. 3 digits for a trash can?!? also they don't appear to be selling the locking version anymore on their site.
you must think i'm fancier than i am! i'm gonna need to run by the dollar general later and see what they've got, heck, even targette is too fancy for me! Quote:
he's about 1yr old(they originally told me he was 2, less happy dealing some of the puppy stuff, hoping i can spin it to help with training for long term), but being from the humane society, has clearly been on the streets for some part of his life. they got him after he ended up dragged behind a car, his hind quarters are all scarred up from it. he's always trying to go down into the basement and forages everywhere for food. there's nothing down there but cobwebs and all my projects/tools, so he gets distracted and then starts chewing on packaging if i don't watch him... otherwise, i was checking the whole time to figure out his mannerisms, tugging on his tail, pulling ears, grabbing his tongue, pulling up his gums and touching his teeth. other than him taking some things as an invitation to play, he never showed any care about any of it. the few times he tried eating something he shouldn't, he never did anything about me reaching in his mouth to dig it out, just the sad-eye look of disappointment that he finally found something and i took it away. the benefit to looking at a dog my friends are fostering is that i get to see how it interacts with their 2 dogs, and hear about how the introduction went without having to fear it so much--they said it was one of the easiest/smoothest introductions they've had between their dogs and a foster.

We don't have carpet except in the non-master bedrooms and our Newfie is not allowed in there. So we get hair tumbleweeds, but it's much easier to clean up. Our Roombas do a get job of keeping it under control
Got this for MomHawk for Christmas and it is proudly displayed on our sofa to straighten everyone out.

Honestly for me I can almost live with all the hair on the carpet but what I really don't enjoy is when I'm about to start cooking and I find squiggly strands in my pots and pans.

Was putting away my snowboard in my garage and trying to shoo Bruno out and he ran back in and I heard him fight a rat. Found it in his mouth and chased him around the garage then closed it so he couldn’t run into the yard with it. Grabbed him and called my wife to help me get it out of his mouth. It was still squeaking.
I picked him up while he still had the rat hanging out his mouth like in the picture to find my wife. She had some cheese ready and the plan was to make him go after it and then remove it. In a split second this bastard slurped the live rat down like a strand of spaghetti. We rushed him to the emergency vet. They told us to monitor him but thought he should be fine. |

Bruno is a Basset Hound, isn't he? Hunting small game is what they do. Bassets love a good barn hunt.

I think the main concern to me would be did this rat potentially eat some rat poison or something... mice/rats in the city will eat all sorts of nasty stuff that I wouldn't want my dog ingesting by proxy. |

It is quite the sight to see when they let her off the lease and she makes a beeline down the closest groundhog hole. It looks like she will never be seen again and then just pops up someplace else. Luckily the groundhogs always run since most are twice her size and could probably kick her butt if they turned and fought. Eating one rat even if it has ingested a modern poison will not cause any/much harm. The new poisons are formulated to require multiple doses to work. The small dose that would be received even in a smaller dog may make them mildly ill at worst but cause no lasting or major harm. Now if they eat some old school poisons or a bunch of mice /rats then it could be a bigger issue.
