Hmm from checking around there an SWP Limited out In CO, a DMG in MD, Unknown color one In NY, WRB in Houston, There's a SWP at HQ in NJ, a WRB in California at least for this week. That's about all the info I have on BRZ and Dealer location. I would call your dealers to find out if they'll get a demo car in

To be honest though, I don't think many people had crawled through the car before I got to it. When I arrived at the dealer, it still had all of its packaging material - white vinyl covering the hood/roof/trunk, plastic seat covers, etc. The odometer did say that it had 138 miles on it though. Everything else looked pretty good, but I didn't check for things like panel gaps in the exterior.
The Dallas car had the same door handle issue.... Weird.

Lower viscosity oil takes less energy to pump and churn in an engine. Some people think it's bad for the engine or something, but I think it helps on cold starts since it gets flowing faster, at least based on what I've read about oil. Too thick is more of a problem than too thin, because if it's too thick it doesn't flow enough to provide proper lubrication. Something like that at least.

Most engine wear happens at start-up after a cold soak. As such, the quicker you can get the bearings floating in oil the less wear occurs. 0W oil does this the quickest, all else equal. The downside is the oil will likely not be as robust for track-use...which is why track cars use 40W or 50W oils and are fully warmed up before going WOT. I use 5w-40 in my Lotus because it's a good mix for my fast-street/track application.

0w-20 in a daily driver will be perfect and the engine will be very well lubricated in cold temps.

The FB uses this oil; this engine uses the FB as the base engine. I believe all of the new Subaru engines (read: non turbo non EJ) have been using this weight fully synthetic oil.

I run a fully synthetic 5W-40 in my WRX purely because most 5W-30 oils sheer much too quickly for my (and my bearings') taste.

EDIT: Actually, the new STI also had a funky oil requirement when it came out that owners were not comfortable with. I need to go check what it was.

EDIT: I think I'm talking shit. The 2012 STI actually uses synthetic oil from the factory/for the first change and that is what owners were concerned about. My point on the new Subaru engines using synthetic 0W-20 stands though.

Interesting, I guess they are concerned with the higher redline? I thought most people knew to let their car fully warm up before going WOT anyway?
I am still dying to know what the break-in period for this car will be, if there's any at all.

You're probably thinking about 5w-30 synthetic becoming "required" only since MY11, being only recommended before that.

That's exactly what I'm thinking of, thanks. In any case, people report better results with 5W-40 synthetic oils that meet certain specifications (i.e. Rotella T6).

i wonder how difficult it is to remove the LEDs above the fogs. it just looks a bit too busy at the front with those LEDs. hopefully there won't be any left over screw holes.

So there are tray-covers under the middle of the car? Couldn't make it out from the pics.

P.S. you might want to blur your address though.
i think the tray cover is part of the JDM aero package, which includes the rear wing and underbody tray cover.

I think the fit and finish issue always happens on prototype and demo cars. I will still buy the 2nd year model though.

Has anyone pointed out that the BRZ has a headlight leveling dial between the trunk release and the interior illumination dial? Also, 0W-20 oil recommended, that sort of thin oil is quickly becoming de facto.
I knew there was something else I wanted to get a picture of, and the headlight leveler was it. Sorry. But yeah, I thought the oil was strange, so I snapped a pic of the filler cap.

Car companies are all transitioning to lighter weight oils. In addition to the other reasons mentioned, lighter oil also helps with fuel economy.

0w-20 will be great for my use as a daily driver. Maybe not for those taking it to the track but its still recommended not required
