Dyno Testing

The numbers are in! I went to STP Motorsports on their Dynojet to run the test and made 252.38whp @ 7psi, 273.95 @ 9psi and 295.85 @ 12psi. These are SAE numbers (the actual pull showed about 299.2 on the screen for the third map).

Not bad for a cheap ass turbo kit eh?

Dunno - maybe it was. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to their equipment, I was reading my own AFR gauge and Boost gauge during the runs and only looking at their screen afterwards to see what my HP and TQ curves were. Here is the graph based on RPM which also shows my AFR and TQ curves:

Although I have no idea why the #'s changed a little as I didn't mess with the scaling or smoothing or any other factors in this area?

The tach hookup was working if you got RPM which you did. I am always skeptical of Dynojet plots that don't show RPM at the bottom as you can see it somehow calculates it differently if the RPM signal is present so it can display torque. Torque numbers are pretty low while peak horsepower numbers are good.

Nice information here. I don't mean to thread hi-jack, just figured I'd post since I also did not find many CX kit owners so figured I'd leave some feedback.

I also went with the CX Racing kit on my BRZ. The issues you had were the same as me. The bolt quality was very poor (replaced with stronger bolts from Lowes). Welds on the manifold all were good quality, but the manifold to block flanges were not flush. I also had to use some high-temp RTV to get it to seal. When everything comes off to get coated, I'll also have it milled so it sits flush with the gasket.

Intercooler piping in my case was a perfect fit, though it could be due to my changed intercooler location due to my aftermarket crash bar. I made custom brackets to mount the intercooler so the position was slightly changed versus installing on the factory crash bar. I'll add a pic below showing my setup.

The last problem was the turbo itself. It is nothing more than cheap eBay knockoff (as well as the BOV and WG..). The oil seals in my turbo went out after a week. Luckily it only leaks in to the turbine side straight out the exhaust, so the car is still drive-able if I need to move it. The whole plan from the start was to replace it with a Precision turbo so its not a big deal. CX offered a 50% discount on a replacement turbo for me if I decided to try a replacement.

In the end you can only expect so much when going with a cheaper kit. I have to say that overall I am impressed with the quality. The modifications I've needed to make to the kit itself are worth the hassle from how much money I saved going with a cheap kit that I can directly fit a bigger turbo on to, which also has intercooler piping routing easily adaptable to a bigger intercooler in the future. I bought this kit to futureproof and it did the job perfectly.

No numbers on my end. I was only halfway through tuning the car when the oil seals went out. Hopefully you'll have better luck with your turbo than I did. I didn't expect it to last long but I did hope for more than a week.

You had the same idea I did originally. Only mine was to just get the hot parts kit and source my owns waste gate, turbo, and bov

That was the original goal, but CX did a nice discount for the 4th of July sale so I went ahead and got the full kit. If the turbo quality was better the full kit is more than enough to exceed limitations of the stock fuel system. There would be no reason to upgrade the turbo unless you are looking for more than 300whp. This setup should do 350whp easy on e85 with fuel mods.

.. but I'll never know. The pte5558 will be here soon enough.

I was more so doing it to avoid a stuck waste gate or turbo from exploding lol. More reliability oriented then power output.

I'd love to do this when I get a BRZ some day, the only thing I would change is the turbo and wastegate with a GReddy Type-S BOV.
great info and awesome build!

how about fuel consumption ? Does this turbo at light load makes it better or worse ?
Or you are to much right foot happy to even bother about economy ?
