The FR-S will appeal to people who know what it is, and the occasional person who buys it just because it looks cool. I however don't see them in the same class or league at all, so cross shopping is possible but not too likely.
totally get it- but here's a counter-stereotype

People walk into the scion dealership and see the TC and the FR-S. The FR-S just looks cooler, and has more prestige. Enter young girl A, who is more concerned about looks, image, and finding boys than about money- as long as the scion dealership can find a way to loan her the higher dollar amount for the FR-S, I don't see much that would stop her a ton of women drive "cute sporty" cars for these reasons, without much of a thought to practicality. Even lots of guys are the same way... hence the explosion in the market of expensive skinny jeans for guys, lol.

I know a ton of people that buy cars just because they look cool. Mostly not enthusiasts, just general run of the mill college students with no clue about how a credit card really works.

HEHE... I am willing to bet my girl would drive circles around most people on this forum. Kinda makes me mad; she only weighs 108lbs... that is like an instant 110lbs weight advantage to her...

Though she likely would never set foot in a Scion dealer. She has been eyeing up the pro-charger sitting in my garage pretty hard, and I keep catching her looking at vette grand sports on auto trader...

While they're not exactly the same as the FR they're in the same price range and a few of them beat the snot out of it as far as what you get for your dollar.

To hop on the pricing conversation.

If the FR-S is truly 25k, or even close to that, and the BRZ is 27/29 or prem/limited, then I'm probably out as well (as I would imagine most everyone on this forum).

I've got a BRZ Limited on pre-order, first at my dealer, for 400 under MSRP. If that figure is above 28k, I'm out. I don't want to pay 30k OTD for this car- a "budget" sports car. It's got about the same performance figures as a 1980s porsche 944, hehe.

We've heard from Subaru time and time again that the BRZ will be priced similarly to a base model WRX. That tells me the premium is around 25k, and that, I can live with. assuming a 27k limited price, anyways.

If it's above 30k OTD, then I'll just go buy something else for my weekend/track car. Maybe an used M3.

I am trying to get my hand on evidence/scans of the pamphlet but the local Subaru dealership gave a pamphlet to a friend (a trusted one) and he says the BRZ pricing starts at 25K.

Which means Limited trim should be around 27-28K.

Cheaper than I thought!

I'll try to get evidence to back it up when I can.

Why buy a BRZ for 28k when you can buy a WRX for cheaper? If this is the actual case it's going to make me /jackiechan.

I dunno guys. Although I really hope you guys are right about the price. An Accord coupe goes for around $27k so I have a feeling the BRZ Limited will be around $28k to $29k. We'll just have to wait and see.

I could not imagine being dissuaded over a few grand. It's strange to me that so many will jump ship over something so small. I also couldn't imagine driving any of the cars that we try SO hard to call "comparable" to the 86/BRZ.

While I'm not poor by any means, I'm not flush enough with cash to ever dismiss a few grand.

It is my exact willingness to jump ship over a few grand or less that brought me to the FR-S in the first place, and allows me to buy pretty much anything I see as a good value for the money. Can I afford a few grand more? Absolutely. Am I willing to spend it? No.

If the FR-S is below $25K I'm in, if it's over, I'm most likely out and will go used for my next DD. Yes, I'm willing to walk for $1.00 difference.

Others may feel differently, but I know what a car is worth to me and what I'm willing to spend on a depreciating asset I'll most likely drive into the ground.

Sure, there are plenty of vehicles around the same price point that you could argue have more features but IMHO they are missing the most important features and are therefore not comparable. It's a matter of preference. I'm not judging anyone who decides to change their minds, I just find it odd.
