Looking at the TRD emblem, I don't think that it will be removed easily. The smallest STi emblem (What's on the STi lips) might fit in if you could get the TRD out but I think that the larger emblem I have would fit over top of the existing TRD emblem easily. I will update when I find the larger emblem. Honestly, I think the TRD emblem is just fine though. |

I found the badge. It is to large for the cap. What I actually came to find out was that the badge that I have is actually for the old style STi fuel cap that I haven't been able to track down? Really?
The smaller style rectangular STi badges aren't the same shape as the TRD badge and definitely won't work. So I'd say only get the TRD cap if you will be happy with the existing OEM TRD badge. |

this is sad,
What part of adding dead weight to the car does toyota get off marketing as "Racing Development"? At first I thought it was a billet cap...then i wanted to face palm with brass knuckles...Is toyota trying to assure that this car becomes the next civic/240sx for the ricers? |

i dont think they are marketing it as any type of racing development product... Just because their brand name is TRD, does not mean every product they make has to be performance minded. This is just for looks to add some flavor to the black plastic cap.
and thank you Beyer for finding the badge and looking it up for me! thought it would be cool if 2 pieces fit together, but oh well

If "yours" means that you will only bolt on power/torque adders, turbo/super chargers, nitrous, engine swaps, etc that's fine. If "yours" means that your car has to go on a diet to make it a svelte, lightweight, autocross, gymkhana cone destroyer, that's fine. If "yours" means that you will only bolt on bags, rims and a sticker bombed stance, hellaflush windshield banners, etc that's fine. If "yours" means that you will only bolt on hard to find, rare, OEM parts that add nothing but looks and weight to the car, that's fine. If you don't understand what it means to put the "C" in custom then you never will. Cusomizing cars isn't exclusive to going 200+ miles an hour or living your life a 1/4 mile at a time. Cars can be just as pretty scraping the ground or lifted to the sky, runnin a strip or a time attack circuit, being parked at a show or aired out at a meet. |

I get all that and I didn't mean to insinuate that plastic gas caps should be banned. What bothers me is the CHANNEL thru which they are available. Toyota has several ways it could have marketed the part, heck for the price point they could have made a real gas cap instead of a cover. To call a body kit TRD is one thing, to call an exhaust is another, but what's next...those fake caliper covers? The dilution of the brand is what concerned me. and the price gouging (i didn't look up the price for myself but someone mentioned $75...yikes...) Toyota seems to be cashing in on the modify-ability of the car in the sleeziest ways possible, and people look to the TRD/STI/Nismo/Mugen/Tom's of the world for OEM quality and OEM level integration...i feel that a cheap hollow plastic injection molded gas cap cover is short changing the market that trusts and values their catalogs as the epitome of factory tuning (not my view point but plenty of people favor the oem-jdm-ness of such divisions of the parent company) IJS |

Toyota is the largest mfr on the planet and they aren't going to miss out on any form of profit generator available. Be it a gas cap, rad cap, battery tie down, or other interior/exterior dress-up bits. The brand is way, way diluted at this point from your perspective. I was comparing my TRD parts to my buddies TRD parts on his Mark IV Supra. Just about every one of his TRD parts were dress up bits. These are again, parts that have been available to many Toyota vehicles for decades. I was actually more interested in the now extinct STi gas cap cover produced over 10 years ago. But it was no longer available and I went with the TRD instead because it is here now and available. I think you're reading a little to much into it brother. |
