Down shiffting from 6 to 5?

Hello you guys new and first time post.

Is anyone having any type of problems when down shifting from 6 to 5? every time I down shift, it grinds. So far I have just said screw it and just gone from 6 to 4, but of course not over reving. can anyone chime in on this.

Have you been rev matching? I experience no problems downshifting from 6th to 5th.

Try using the pedal that is furthest on the left.

I skip gears often. Unless I need a constant connection to the drive line or want to engine brake efficiently, I'll jump from 6 to 4 to 2. I'll also jump up from 3 to 5, 2 to 4 to 6, whatever. That's the nice thing about an H-shifter, you can just put it where you want it and not need to run through them like an auto or sequential. As long as I'm not bogging the car going up hill or something, this works well on flat ground and down hills for daily driving.

Well if it grinds everytime something's wrong. Go to the dealer and make them drive it and they should fix it.

With the clutch fully in it should NEVER grid 6th to 5th regardless of whether you are rev matching or not.

Something is definitely wrong and I'd have the dealer look at it if it's happening all the time.

If it's intermittently doing it, is harder because things always seem to clear up when you go to show someone haha

There's been a lot of arguments about screwing up the syncros when shifting like that. Usually the proper method to do it is like:

4th gear
clutch in
put it in 5th gear
put it in 6th gear
clutch out.

And supposedly that'll save your syncros.

I'm not a mechanic or anything. I've just read this multiple times in different places.

Did it for 8 years in a tC, no issues with the transmission there. If it messes something up I haven't encountered it in nearly a decade.

I'll often start in 1st and skip 2nd when driving like a grandma or start in 2nd when rolling and skip 3rd

Only 5% of transmissions sold in the U.S. are manuals, so what do you expect?
