Then I read about the forthcoming FR-S in Motor Trend(?), at which point I was sold. I have family members that have both bought '13 V8 Charger RT's, and I'm sure they probably wonder why I'd buy a 200hp 4-cylinder for (almost) what they paid for their V8's, but they just don't get it... there is a lot more to driving than just a straight line.

Edit: How do you 'thank' someone for their post? I don't see an icon anywhere for it..
Fellow Mazda3 driver! I loved my 3. I have owned tons of sports cars but bought the 3 to conserve gas and thought it would be a 3 year car and kept it for almost 7. Unfortunately it was in an accident (not my fault) and the car was never the same after that. I really don't like what they are doing with the 3's now. My 2006 had a nicer interior and better shifter. I also did not love the smiley face front grill. The Speed3 is a fun car and pretty practical too, but the interior was a mess, and I really wanted to go back to a rear wheel drive car again.

Funny enough, my friend has a Mustang GT and he thinks I was nuts to pay $28K for the BRZ when his Mustang GT was about the same price. He really thought I was nuts to trade in my Genesis Coupe for something even less powerful. That said, I have plans to get him behind the wheel soon to explain to him and show him why I love the car so much. He has only known big fast American cars his whole life. So he equates sports car to American muscle car.

I bought mine to save on repairs. I was driving a '94 BMW 325is which was costing me in repairs nearly what I paid yearly for the Mazda. The 325is was my first car, bought cash in 2005, and when I went to get the Mazda, the salesman was actually upset that I was insisting on the GT model because 'first time financiers don't buy $24k cars', but I came from a BMW with lots of little luxuries that I didn't want to give up. I loved the 3 as well. For a FWD compact sedan, it was a fun little car (MT of course). I did end up wishing I'd went with the Speed3 for that kind of money though; although that would've made it harder to trade in for the BRZ :P

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Took the car out tonight to a neighborhood that is under development (not a single house built yet, but the roads are all paved brand new and there are tons of twists and turns). Put it in sport mode and had some serious fun.. Seriously, this car is so much fun I cannot stop smiling. It just begs to be pushed through turns and wants more. I am really starting to find the sweet spot in the powerband and the shifter seems to get better the more I drive the car.

This car is just too much fun.. I know people complain about the engine, but folks, this engine makes the car. Without the boxster, this car would not have the balance and low center of gravity. It really makes the car.

Man, I hate to use cliche's but I feel like the nerd in high school who just took Kate Upton to the senior prom in this car..

When I said I have not had this much fun since my 1995 RX-7 twin turbo, I meant it. This car actually makes me forget that car, and I have not forgotten that car since I sold it...

Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!

Idk how they got so far away from the regular Genesis with the Coupe. The old one was a good looking car. The refresh is a butter face.

I for one don't miss the Genesis Coupe's crappy method of traction control: at the slightest hint of wheel spin the car would cut gas to the engine. And I mean by the slightest hint. Made pulling way from a stop in rain or snow a pain in the ass if you were even slightly aggressive with the throttle.

I do miss the torque & boost though.

Yes, the nannies in the Gencoupe were quite obtrusive. Not sure how the BRZ nannies play, I have tried sport mode vs full on, and have not really noticed a difference. Turned everything off in an empty parking lot and was surprised at how stable the BRZ is even with the nannies disabled. This car is very controllable.

Torque and boost is nice, but there are pros and cons with turbos. The car did not make full boost until the engine was around 140-150 degrees and, in Minnesota, that could mean awhile. So you had this bigger heavier car that was actually pretty lethargic for the fist 20 minutes of driving or so in the winter.

My wife used to complain about it all the time.

LOL, yes that does not belong on that car at all...

But it could have been worse:

I asked my dealer about getting a Premium without the spoiler and they said that Subaru is putting spoilers on the Premiums at the factory now. If this is true then it is next to impossible to get a new BRZ without a spoiler.

I don't mind the looks of the spoiler, though I think it looks a little better without it. I just didn't want to pay extra for it, so the dealer gave me about a $600 discount to make up for it.

I cross-shopped my BRZ with the 3.8 GenCoupe and the BMW 128. I like BMW qualities, but not BMW quality (I've owned 'em...not fun). The GenCoupe has all of the right features but they didn't seem to be happy working together. That, that the car is big. Heavy. Ponderous.

I chose the BRZ for the same reasons you did. It reminds me on my '86 MR2 that I bought new many years ago. An honest sports car and a great value.

Nice choice on the color too.
