Yeah, I know exactly what it means. The first model year car isn't unusable after the "special editions*" come out. They aren't being put out to get early adopters to trade in for a newer one. They are being put out there to maintain interest as the model ages.
You say it like updating through the life of the model isn't common practice in the automotive industry. IMO, planned obsolescence is when Ford refreshed the Mustang and didn't offer the 5.0 and new 3.7 until the 2nd year of the refresh. *This is assuming the special editions are suspension, interior, and exterior mods and not major powertrain upgrades. |

For example, apple refreshes almost their entire product line once a year. If one was to hold off on purchasing an apple product because they know a refresh or new model is coming out next year, then there will never be a good time to buy one. Just buy an FR-S/BRZ/86 when you're ready or capable, and enjoy the hell out of it. Keep looking at the horizon fearing what may be released next, and you'll never get to enjoy one. |

go ask a 2010 mustang GT owner how he feels... or any GT-R owner... or that one lucky guy that bought a 911 GT3 RS and the next day they announced the GT3 RS 4.0...

That just sounds weird FRS RS 1.0

“Some will have Toyota performance parts from, say, TRD (Toyota Racing Development) — suspension, tires, wheels, etc. Others will be very different from that.” Given that Subaru has made its performance intentions clearly known with the BRZ STI Concept at this year’s 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, and that a company insider revealed there is a turbocharged FA20 mill in the pipeline, it makes sense for Toyota to pursue its individual avenues of performance and style. Granted, it’s still unclear whether any of these variants will head to North America, so don’t hold your breath for that 300-horse FR-S or luxury-focused Modellista just yet. Quote:
Given that this thing is a Scion for US/Canada, there is a high possibility we'll get screwed again! ![]()

I am all down for them making changes both in performance and looks to the car every year. It keeps it fresh and might make me want to trade in my car every 2 to 3 years.
