I don't see what the worry is on a class bump. I think it's extremely unlikely to happen (especially sans E85), and if it does, it'll be because the car is proven to be able to keep up. If that's the case, what's the big deal? When nationals rolls around, I think you'll see things be quite a bit tighter than they were this past weekend. You could put Heitkotter on a golf cart and he'd be competitive in STX. The E36 is still the car to worry about. As for E85... That had VERY little to do with the gap from Andrew to me. The suspension on both cars was identical, even own to making identical changes on our last run on Monday. If you watch my videos, I made mistakes on both days, big enough to cover most of that gap. Andrew's just that good. |

Write up for driving the car at the Pro/Tour with Bill. It was a blast. Lots of tidbits on setup that I learned, first time in RWD in a National event (and I think it was only my 3rd event ever driving in RWD). Came from an 06 STI, just trying to figure it out now.

How does the experience translate from RT* to ST* in the same chassis? Does it feel foreign or just faster and grippier but same behavior?

Andrew could have been driving the car on RS3s, Z2s, or Rivals and the result would have been the same. From all I've seen all three of them are really close unless you talking rain/standing water or extreme temp conditions.
I also agree with Eric, if he had been on 93 octane he would have still won. I definitely have a case of not pushing hard enough. These cars when setup well are incredible stable and a small slide of the rear end isn't a big deal most of the time. I got a chance to watch a video from our last event of my fastest run versus another Pro guy also running in CS (RX8) and he was a second faster than me through a long 4-cone slalom. My video looks like I was out for a Sunday drive, should have been pushing much harder, the car definitely had it in it. The results I thought were the most impressive was the hurting the DSP guys put on SM. |

I was lucky enough to drive Eric's car last year. If "driving pleasure" is measured on a scale of one to ten, out of the tons of cars I've driven, his car is an 11 and the next closest is probably a 6... So mindlessly easy to drive really, really fast. |
