In 4 years when this Subaru engine in my FR-S starts leaking coolant, blowing gaskets, and throwing rods I will be kicking myself for not buying a new Civic. But Honda lost their way when they gave up on their double-wishbone suspension and added 500 lbs to their cars.

People want cars that can handle and drive and the FR-S is the best drivers car to be released at this price for years, but we kid ourselves into thinking the first 7400 rpm 100hp/L N/A Subaru engine designed will be last much more than the warranty. In 6 years tops most of us will have a very nice rolling chassis, while the guy who settled for the new Civic will still have reliable (but boring) transportation.

Pick your poison.
That's an incredibly negative and ignorant thing to say and think. I've been a Honda fan most of my teenage/adult life and their engines are amazing. But that doesn't mean engines made by other companies suck. I would say the most average of engines these days (especially non-turbo) is good for at least 150k reliable miles without issue. It may not have Honda stamped into the engine block, but I'm not worried about anything happening to the FA20 for however long I own it (be it 2 years or 10 years).

FYI my '92 Integra's engine has 300k miles and still going strong, never had any internal work. Love it!

Don't get me wrong, the FR-S/BRZ is a much more thrilling car to drive. It's just so much more fun. But to say that Honda doesn't make some good engines, that's just ignorant. If you take away everything like the fwd, the big bulky cars, the understeer, and look at just strictly engines, Honda wins. No doubt.

With that being said, I am still going to get rid of my 09 Civic Si to grab a FR-S
I kept my 425whp DC5. Why not have both? It's a different kind of fun. FR-S on the twisty country roads and the turbo K20 for highway seat plant. I don't think I could live without the intoxicating spool of that turbo, but I don't want that on the FR-S.
