Advan AD08 - overkill?

Ok so my BRZ is 100% stock right now at less than a week old. My long term plan is to have "mild" OEM+ modifications, and as my first mod, I'm considering forged wheels of the 17x8 variety, matched with 225/45 tires. Thus the question stands. Am I wasting money on Neovas on a car that is 200hp now and will do 220hp at best for the life of the tire?

You could get some lightweight 17x7 with better tire. Unless you're going forced induction, the stock wheel size setup is sufficient.

I run AD08 225/45 on a 7.5J wheel. This is the recommended diameter on the Yokohama website. The ride is considerably firmer with these than the OE tyres so I expect fitting them to an 8J wheel (equally acceptable) would be stiffer still.

Power has little to do with tyre choice, unless you're only looking at this from a traction point of view.

i dont think thats overkill at all. it is an older tire however so i would be willing to bet that the star spec 2, rival, and maybe even the rs3 would be a better fit (especially the rival if you live in a dry and sunny area).

What is your intended application and use? Advan AD08 are great tires to use for spirited runs or on track. If you have plans to track or just run hard from time to time, then they're great tires to use.

I run 235/40-17 AD08s on my BRZ. It's currently stock power and I love them. I can still break them loose, or ride the grip like the car's on rails. Love them. Dunlop Direzza ZIIs are another good choice for a tire with crazy grip.

I'd go Rivals, cheaper and so far I like them better than the wider AD08s I was using on the car.

To answer your other question, for me sticky tires are ideal for street use for emergency handling and braking far more than handling horsepowers.....

No, not overkill, this car needs some serious tires, mine grips so hard now.

My car is primarily street driven with ~5-7 auto-x sessions a year and maybe 1 track day, I went with Pilot Super Sports and I'm quite happy with my decision. Biggest downside is road noise.

I had AD08's on my previous car for about a year (they lasted about 12,000 miles), with a decent amount of canyon runs during that year. Great tires, absolutely love them. One thing is that they hydroplane a lot worse than standard tires, but the grip on them is pretty intense.

That is something alot of people don't factor in. Not all the uber high performance tires are designed to work nearly as well in the rain. If you are looking for a long lasting grippy works well in the rain tire, then you will want the Michelin PSS.

They are certainly better than slicks.

If looking to keep the EHP line (140-200 treadwear tires), look into an RE-11 or RE-11A. They are great DD tires with good track performance.

- it's a daily driver
- no plans on going on track
- I am also looking at the Bridgestone RE-11 as an alternative (slightly cheaper too)
- only 2 seasons where I live: sun and rain
- you may think this is weird, but Neovas are kind of a "grail" tire for me. wanted to have a set since the AD07 days but my broke a** couldn't afford them then.

If you really wanted the tire, you can check it out. It's all about money right?

RE-11A (the newer tire) should be a little less than the current RE-11. If 15k is too little mileage for a tire, then you can look into a Continental DW or Hankook V12. Those last a little longer with a tradeoff of dry grip, but gain in wet grip (thread encourages water to escape off the tire).
