I turned traction control off for the first time a few months ago in the rain. Did a complete 360 going into a corner going about 25 mph. Never again!

My first test drive was in the rain with all of the nannies on. I came into a 90 degree turn carrying a lot more speed than I should have and the car got sideways - controllable sideways, but, glad I had the nannies on. Said to myself, "I'm going to have to get used to this (RWD) again". So, from the beginning, I have had respect for the car. Since then, I have gone as far as being in VSC Sport mode, but, never fully disabled the system - saving that for a closed course. The bottom line is that if you dump too much speed into a corner in the rain, the car WILL have no problem pointing out your failings as a driver. Our cars are great driving tools in the hands of good drivers, but, most people cannot drive like the Stig and driving well in a video game doesn't mean you can drive well in real life.

Traction control sucked on my genesis coupe. If you spun the tires just a tad it would cut power for a few seconds. Could be quite dangerous when you are in a situation where you need to move and you can't...

Just found this old thread bumped and wanted to concur.

I just got my car back from 6k dmg thinking no traction control would be fun and "I got this." Slid sideways back and forth trying to straighten the car out I couldn't recover and ended up on a median plowed through a sign.

I learned a lot from this experience and I'm constantly replaying in my mind things I could have done differently to avoid messing up my car and traction control is one of them.

One other thing to note is stock all season wheels almost seem dangerous. I got some new pirelli pzero tires and hardly ever spin. Such a huge difference wow.

Question... everyone keeps saying Traction Control but do they mean Stability Control? And I can't remember but is Traction Control turned off in Sport mode?

That's one thing I like about FWD or front based AWD. It is just so darn stable.

Interesting thread, can't wait to get mine and turn all the nannies off permanently and see why people keep saying that TC is a blessing in this car.

My right foot has better throttle control than the POS TC has had in any of my cars, and I've driven some powerful cars.

I think the 2013 r32's traction control or stability control can't be turned off completely stock without doing some tinkering. That's pretty darn lame in my book.

Accidents do not care about your previous driving experience. I think your situation was a poor example of how turning off the nanny would've saved you. Going thru that turn faster will not save you the next time the same thing happens, taking your time and making sure both lanes are cleared would be the smart thing to do.

I think some are definitely confusing the two. I am pretty sure that traction control is turned off in VSC Sport mode, however, people may be thinking that the traction control is intervening when it actually is the VSC selectively braking the appropriate brake to regain what it thinks is a loss of control.

I drive with the traction and stability off 90% of the time. But yes in the rain especially with the mods I have now. Its very dangerous. But Even in the winter I only turn those off to make left hand turns. As the traction and stability kick in it cuts off too much power and I have almost been hit a bunch of times leaving them on.
